definitely expensive. and once its together you cant really enjoy all of that inside.

Just slide the cardboard panels aside to get to the innards. The cap of the elevator is the sticky wicket, tho. You have to both accomodate it/them to set the T-Drome on top, plus ideally you'd want to slide a DS slice out to get at each wedge's sides for maximal play.

Those old Kenner Death Star sets aren't the sturdiest, I wouldn't put anything on top of them, even if it was nine of them supporting the weight.

As someone who is into using alternative building materials for toy construction i find this REALLY cool....

and see how it could be improved.

I had two of those DS playsets as a kid, and cobra was perpetually in a Master Terror Drome construction project. Never completed due to budget. (Never dreamed of actually getting more of those to complete a circle.) BTW If you take the legs off on the old Kenner Star Destroyer playset, it fits perfectly on top of the DS playset.
