This could be cool, but I am concerned about how it will affect Larry Hama's G.I. Joe comic book. Yes, he's written a G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover before, but I don't like the idea of restarting the title, and I'm not sure that G.I. Joe, as written by Larry, is a good fit with what amounts to quite a few sci-fi concepts.

Okay, maybe there's not much to worry about. This from GeneralsJoes:

UPDATE – I reached out to Chris Ryall, editor at IDW to inquire about A Real American Hero, and he confirmed that this title will be “untouched by the #IDWRevolution”. Great news!

*Whew!*

The Hollywood Reporter has a sizzle reel from IDW for it that was pointed out by artist Adam Riches.

Is this a Shared Hasbro Comicsverse, or contiuous with the Movieverse?

I believe it's the same idea, but not the same continuity as the Hasbro Movieverse.

To me, the bigger story coming out today is Hasbro announcing they will be "reigniting" and "reimagining" the GI Joe brand, which will include a new animated series. I'm all for a reimagining, as I think that is what it will take to give GI Joe the best chance of becoming popular again- I'm just curious as to the direction it will go in.

I'd think the ideas of war and terrorism will possibly disappear from the line, and it could go in a more "Adventure Team" lineup. I would like to see familiar characters still show up, though- even if they come in a different incarnation.

Yeah, here's that link. I hear the word "Re-Imagined" and it sends up more red flags than the Oktober Guard on parade. I'll want more details, but for now -- reaallllly concerned, and hoping that Larry Hama gets to continue the Real American Hero for IDW, because that might be all that's left at the end of this.

If Joe is getting re-imagined, I'm very cautiously optimistic. All I Gotta say is It better be movable, like the late, great Don Levine said, "If it isn't movable we don't have a product."

I'm all for a new GI Joe cartoon series as long as it doesn't get canned (again) mid season to make place for a new movie.
Both could be run side by side. Marvel did it with their various super heroes cartoons.
A TV shows usually ends in May anyways, so it'll leave the whole summer for the big movie to shine and you go back to the show during the fall.
I can understand that a cartoon based toy line would take a step back in favor of the movie based line during a movie year, but don't go on hiatus once the movie buzz is gone. Go back to your cartoon line along with your cartoon show and keep the brand alive.

I think we can assume that the GI Joe movie franchise is getting rebooted to fit with this "brand new" GI Joe.
Will Hasbro be at JoeCon this year? Maybe they'll shed some light about this new direction and maybe show the 2016 toys.
We'll probably have to wait for the next Toy Fair if not SDCC 2017 to see toys based on this new direction.

They seem very motivated by this whole cross branding strategy, but will they be able to pulled it off?
Will they be able to coordinate the release (and distribution) of toy lines to match the releases of these various movies and shows beyond the accursed first wave that seem to drown the pegs and block the further release of subsequent assortments? Time shall tell.

It's about damn time .

Seriously.

They've been dragging their feet with regards to this . I visit joe sites daily but haven't bought a joe...hell I don't recall the last time I bought a joe at retail. I buy the comics . I'm literally a fan that wants to support Joe but feels very little passion for the offerings from the last few years . The movie product did **** all for me. The classic designs are nice but I don't really care for the modern Era "bucks". Reimagining ...come quickly!

... hot mess ...

TBH: I'm definitely not the target market for this series. Or, if I was intended to be, someone was not doing their homework.

HA!

TBH: After reading it a variation of "A hot mess" crossed my mind as well..

Individually? Yes. A combined universe that's based upon the IDW events ? ....not as presented .

I can respect what they are trying to do but Hasbro would have been better off rebooting one brand and expanding it.

Micronauts seems like a great choice in light of Guardians of The Galaxy. Hell ROM could have been shoe horned into that without issue.

agree with hot mess, but with a mild emphasis on hot. mainly because of that first panel of the adventure team, also a little bit because if they slow down and not cram it all into one comic, there are some damn interesting possibilities. But mostly because of the sandlot style of it all. If only the toys were all in the same and correct scale.
