Probably not the best place to post. But, I don't want anyone to miss this deal. Anycubic has their printers on sale. The Photon Zero is only 99 dollars. My wife got me one and for the price it's awesome I already printed some Thanos heads, some plastic barrels, and an articulated robot arm. The sale lasts six more days. https://www.anycubic.com/collections/anycubic-photon-3d-printers/products/anycubic-photon-zero |

The Photon Zero is a decent little printer. It's lower resolution than some of the others out there, but at the price, it's pretty good. Anycubic's customer support is good too, if you wind up needing to do a warranty claim. Pros: Nice price Great Z-axis resolution (layer height) at 35um (0.035mm) prints on it look great. Has capability of doing 10um (0.01mm), although I have not tested at this height. Single-screw connection for build platform, making leveling simple. Cons: Small print size: 97 x 54 x 150 mm Low XY resolution: 480p (854x480) No Auto Bed Leveling - you'll have to adjust the bed before your initial print and check it occasionally to make sure it is still level to prevent failed prints Don't let the cons discourage you from buying; it's a nice printer. I just wanted to make sure people are aware of some of the potential issues. I have one of these and I use it quite regularly for prints that aren't heavy on detail and it does some good work. In fact, my Zartan was printed on this printer: One thing that can intimidate new users about resin printers is the resin cleanup and handling, which requires using 90% isopropyl alcohol and good gloves. Any resin contact with your skin is a pain to clean off and will generate a burning sensation upon contact with UV light (including sunlight). I recommend looking into the water soluble. They're easy cleanup, just use regular water and don't tend to stick to skin quite as readily as the standard resins, meaning accidental contact is much easier to clean up. |

Me: What would you say about me getting into 3d printing? Wife (librarian who has some experience with 3d printing): Great. I can recommend some programs to get you started. Me: Well.... there's this resin printer on sale. Wife: No. Do not buy one. Resin smells and you don't have a space where it won't stink up the whole apartment. Me:....Ok. |

Anycubic has a plant based resin that supposed to not smell mech at all. |

I haven't tried the plant-based resin but I know the water-soluble I've been using doesn't stink nearly as bad as the PLA or ABS in my filament printers. |

Methyl Hydrate works just as well as Isopropyl Alcohol with regard to cleaning your resin prints. I mention this as IA was, and still may be , hard to find and over priced. You can find methyl hydrate at any hardware or automotive store fairly cheap. I've been using methyl hydrate , alcohol and concentrated cleaner for a long time now. All three work but methyl and IA are best for beginners using resin printers. |

Resin smells and you don't have a space where it won't stink up the whole apartment. Me:....Ok. Where there is a will, there is a way. The first time I used mine it did stink up the whole house. Luckily I had an old sand blasting cabinet. I had a bathroom exhaust fan hooked up to it with some dryer vent tubing running out the nearest window. I can sit right next to it while it is running with no smell at all! Odor depends on the resin too. I use the Siraya tech Fast. There is a smell but it's not obnoxious it's very tolerable. |

I realize my post may have seemed negative about this printer but I want to make say I really do like this printer, especially if it's your first foray into SLA printing. It can give really good results, and unlike an FDM printer, it can give great results right out of the box, without a lot of fiddling. To show how it can do some fine work, I designed this up and threw it on the build plate with some other stuff I was getting ready to print (figured I might as well fill the plate and get the most for my print time). Ignore the paint job, I just slapped some paint without paying attention to colors on to bring out the detail some because it was printed in clear resin (the face is muddied because the paint is too thick). Also, forgive the missing left arm - I dropped it and couldn't find it, and I broke the feet off and had to glue them back on, so that's why they're a bit wonky looking. Soldier with helmet and tac vest (1:87 scale): Figure has 4-POA, shoulders and hips: He stands as tall as a modern Joe's boots: This figure was all printed on the Photon Zero, with 24AWG wire for the shoulder and knee pins. Figure has .65mm holes in the shoulder of the figure and arms, as well as the legs and crotch, with the 24AWG wire glued into the arm to allow it to peg into the torso. A longer piece was cut to attach the legs, with the ends bent to keep the legs from sliding off. |
