if i wanted some kind of transformer relic or specimen for my lab, how big is an average head or arm in our scale?

is there any toys or bobble/vinyl figures with a head big enough and good sculpt?

i don't have a certain character preference or anything, just a cheap head for one of many specimens.

The problem is that TFs don't have a scale to each other in robot mode; they're all over the place.

This might be something akin to what you're wanting:

that looks cool, but is $55 more than i want to spend :)

i guess i'm thinking if the original cars and jets are 1:18 then something believably the size of their heads.

There are some knock-off figures out there that are roughly 1:18 scale, at least of the smaller carbots and such. As AV said, there's no real 'scale' for them, since the jets are tiny in bot mode compared to what their alt mode is. At the same time, some of the bots seem gigantic compared to humans, especially with their alt modes. And then compared to each other or even themselves (looking at you, Broadside. How can you be a robot who turns into a jet AND an aircraft carrier?) The way I try to do it is getting guys who are in scale in vehicle mode and not worry about bot mode.

I thought I had pictures but I can't find them - I have an oversized MP Bumblebee that's roughly 1:18 scale (can't fit a figure in it, though). The head on it is probably about an inch and a half or so in diameter.

i was thinking in the cartoon people rode in the vehicle form of them all, except the enemy leader who was a giant gun? i'm not up to snuff at all. i saw the modern movies, or parts of them at least.

say optimus prime was real. a semi in 1/1 scale and in bot mode how big would his head be? for some reason i was thinking it would need to be 3-4" tall.

would this be close?

What about something like these vinyl figures? You could just use the head.

A character like Grimlock would read like "oh just a big robot head" without screaming "It's ______!"

well i just won that sideshow mini bust on ebay. hopefully i get it and it does it for me. what started as a what if kind of took over my mind for awhile there. i found some interesting posts from wikis and other forums. is seems optimus prime has been anywhere from 20' to about 40' depending on the generation and what version. looking at size charts and spit balling i'm thinking the mini bust (just the head) will pass.

funny some of the arguments over scale and why some characters shrink etc..

i'm wondering if i can use metal tape over some of the tech detail to look more like cartoon op. i'll be weathering it up a lot.

That looks great. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

I'm super into trying to find Transformers that'll work with 1/18th scale figures. I found a Bumble Bee that works and that head looks to be about twice the size of his and since Prime would be roughly twice his size I think it'll work awesome.

i really like the scooter and chopper you did a lot. i can't say "never", but transformers are not a huge interest for me right now. i wanted just one (famous last words i know) for a relic/specimen. as a kid i could never get them transformed and when i did was unimpressed with the ones i had. i'm fuzzy but think i had a couple dinobots and tiny bumblebee and the red one of that same mold. i remember an older cousin having the boom box and cassettes that thing was amazing at the time.

this thing looks great! it comes off the stand too. i was hoping i could turn the stand so the autobot emblem was hidden, but i'll just display it on something else. at right at $11 shipped i got a really good deal.
