This is something I've been wanting to do for a while.

To me, Cobra's key advantage is its science. For the straight up military science, they've got Destro and Scrap Iron cooking up good stuff in MARS' kitchen. And you just know Destro has a whole team of engineers and designers working overtime to impress his biggest client.

But it seems pretty unrealistic to me that Cobra would rely solely on one mad scientist type (be it Mindbender or Venom) to come up with the other wacky tech they use to menace the world. So I made a couple of lab geeks to take care of the real science in the background while others with more ruthless or flamboyant personalities take the credit.

Pretty straightforward formula, really. Rex coats and arms on Cobra Officer bodies with Resolute Trooper heads (liked the squared-off crewcut look for these guys for some reason).

I may add belts or something, but I haven't decided if they need them yet.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, these work really well. And I dig how you gave them purple masks to make them fit in with the other Science Corps guys in your 'verse :D

LOVE the clipboard and textbook - where did you get those?

Love the generic look of these guys. The only thing I would try different is to add Henry Jones glasses to them to add an extra touch.

Very cool. If I find some more Rexes, I'll definitely be copying this idea.

They look great! In the early Marvel issues of GI Joe they had unmasked techs in white labcoats these customs look a bit like them.

I like what you've done here for all the reasons set forth above. I also like the idea of having one of them have a gas mask and a chemical container.

I like the suggested idea also of glasses, though something that looks like safey goggle would be sweet.

One idea that would be perfect for these guys, that I used from some really cheap CAT toys: Hard hats.

If you get some chemical containers going, you should try some Haz-Mat decals for them.

Lastly, I like that you removed the Cobra logos from the chest, to differentiate them from Troopers. The logo is on the coat anyway. What I'd love to see though, is a tie on the shirt instead. As Chief pointed out with one of his customs, that trooper shirt is perfect for looking like a dress shirt, if you disguise the lack of buttons with a tie. For some reason it just seems like the Science branch of Cobra (the serious branch, not the half-naked branch) would wear ties. Plus, a tie combined with combat boots just seems diabolical to me. lol.

EDIT: Not that you need to add or change anything at all. Really nice figures. It's just one of those things where ideas just start jumping out at you when you see them, which is a good thing.

Belts...these guys need belts.... Though I think that's mostly just a pet peeve of mine related to that Trooper body...It needs a Belt.

Spin...I love some of these LBC-ish ideas you've been pumping out...I'll definatley be adding these to my notebook of ideas to adapt into ARAH style (I just can't afford $5-10 of fodder per custom.)

Very Nicely done and I agree with the good Dr. Bindy about the suttle additions to them.

I agree. I picked out a couple last night that should work nicely.

Heh! I can't afford that either, these days. That's why this idea had to sit so long -- I had to wait until Someone would trade me a white coated Doctor figure. Then, on a fluke, I found another at Wal Mart and couldn't resist snagging him at their current $5 price point. He comes with cool accessories, too, which is useful given my new Native American-influenced customizing philosophy: Use every part of the kill.

In fact, the trooper parts all came from my scrap heap, so I'm pretty proud to say these guys are relatively eco-friendly in construction.

;)

As for the logo being on the coat and not the shirt, if you've read my dios you know Cobra has a pretty distinct (and somewhat dysfunctional) corporate culture. CC is big on branding, but most of his followers not so much. So, I figure, the higher you go in the organization, the more subtle you can afford to be in the way you display the brand. Blueshirts wear the big red sigil emblazoned on their chests like eager interns wearing the company t-shirt. Vipers get to wear it smaller on their vests. These guys get a small one on the coat.

Actually, this corporate culture thing makes Bindy's tie idea very intriguing and, I think, it would be pretty easy to pull off.

I also like the goggles idea and think I might need to start scouring the younger kids toy aisles for cheap Myth Busters-type accessories.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. I really appreciate it.
