Here's something new. First time I drift away from the Joeverse; I recently took up the collecting of Star Wars figures. I also started reading a few SW comic books - Legacy is one of my favorite series.

I like the Darth Wyyrlok character, and decided to make him since he hasn't been produced.

It's also my first time customizing modern GI Joes (I'm very much an ARAH guy), and I must admit the extra articulation is welcome.

Finally I wanted to improve my sculpting further more. I'm a big fan of SithFire's work on Star Wars customs, and I wanted to try and sculpt a figure myself.

So here goes... a few WIP shots. I'm still working on this bad boy.

The base is a ROC MARS Trooper.

I sanded down everything, and sculpted all the details on top of the frame.

I must specify that the pictures above sum up the past 2 months... If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I'm currently painting the body; it's a pain in the rearend because the epoxy I used to sculpt all the details (Tamiya Quick Type) won't take paint easily. So I have to do many touch-ups over and over again.

I also need to add the tattoos on the head, and then add a few extra accessories (like a cape).

Stay tuned...

This is coming together nicely. Your sculpting is right on the money. I, too, can't wait to see how this progresses. Will you be using a plastic or soft-goods cape for him?

I'm planning to use a soft-goods cape; I have a few extra Vaders lying around. I've already sacrificed one of them ;)

Thank you Darko. Sculpting everything from scratch is challenging, but that pretty much allows you to give the figure whatever look you want it to have, right?! Although it takes FOREVER to complete a project like this.

Did you do any sculpting on the head or is that factory?

Wonderful work so far. If your progress is any indication, this is going to come out perfect!

Isn't Darth Wyyrlok supposed to be bigger and bulkier than that donor Joe body ?

The head is factory - it comes from the ROTS Mas Amedda:

The only sculpting I did was for the small things/rings at the base of the horns.

Thanks Dan!! I appreciate the encouragements!

He is quite bulky indeed, but I think most of it comes from the armor. He isn't particularly taller than other Sith characters (in the comics he often looks the same size as Darth Nihl for instance) but as far as bulk is concerned, he will be slightly bulkier than the other figures in the line.

As far as size is concerned, I don't think I'm at that point yet where I'm comfortable modding figures to reflect their actual sizes anyway. I'm working on that for my next custom: Aayla Secura. Baby steps!!

Looks like a lot of hard work going into this one, and so far very worth it.

I was going to ask about the size but, with the armor, he does appear to be comparable to what we can see of the character's torso in the comic image.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think the shoulder armor makes him look absolutely huge, but he doesn't look too bulky if you focus on the rest. At least not Roadblock-like bulky.

I probably could have made the arms a little bigger - and I don't think it would have hurt. But I was also afraid of losing articulation. I think I'll be able to render size and bulk a whole lot better when I get more comfortable with sculpting overall!

I find that sculpting the folds of the clothes is the most frustrating and challenging thing right now.

Gotta admit I know nothing of the character...or much of the EU, but this is a seriously cool custom taking shape! I wouldn't worry about the size as there were really no HUGE muscular freaks in the SW movies. This looks right on par with the image. I really want to see this all done. The only thing that I have seen that I wish you would tweak are the ends of the tusks/horns...wish they were to a point as that looks menacing. Great work thus far!

Good point about the horns, I'll see what it looks like when it's all done and if I feel it needs a little fixin' to look better. Thanks!! :-D

Here's an update: the main body sculpt is over!

I'm now working on the paint job. Mostly touch ups for the body, and adding tattoos on the head...

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Please note the head isn't pushed all the way down, so the figure will look bulkier eventually as its head sits closer to the shoulders.
