Um, when they reach a state of "finished for now?" :shifty:

TR101AL, Thanks. Angel is supposed to be short, so I'm always trying to keep her height down, no matter what I'm doing on her. She's currently Star Wars figure height.

I'll just assume you're being polite in blowing off Pluv's request...as this thread makes it obvious...you don't ever actually "Finish" figures...:shifty: :D

This was funny, before it became so gorram accurate.... :shifty:

BUMP for the latest project; Angel V3. I recently rebooted my comic, and Angel will ave a slightly updated look in it. I wanted a figure of the new look.

Making this one from a Marvel Universe Mystique, and a couple resin castings taken from a 25th Scarlet. The lower arms are 25th Scarlett, with the posts modified to fit into the narrowed upper arms. I've taken a lot of material off this girl, and not much will be added back. I made the thigh swivels and rocker ankles myself, since I still haven't gotten a new style female MU buck. New mid torso joint is a ball and socket taken from a Star Wars figure. Hands are taken from an Amedala figure. The one in the torn up white arena costume. The truncated left hand will be perfect in the vambrace. The vambrace itself is going to be cast, to make it easier to make one with the blades extended, and that will have a casting of an MU girl fist. The wrist joint is made from Flex Rex, so I won't have to worry about styrene suddenly going brittle. It hasn't been a problem yet with the old one, but best not to tempt fate.

Trying something new with the hair, this time. Instead of trying to hinge it off the head, I'm fastening it to her back. The last of the sculpting on the hair is currently curing. It's concave around the top, to make room for hair to be sculpted onto the head. It should end up kind of similar to the werewolf Greyryder neck set up. If it works, I'll probably retrofit the system onto the other two versions of her. I'll be making a mold of the hair, since I'll need a second one to modify to make way for her scabbard.

I'm really happy with this one's range of motion, and I don't see any of the sculpting I need to do on her affecting that.

So she's an alley cat, then?

At first I thought the re-design of the character might have short hair, and a much more overtly visual feline vibe as a result. Part of me likes that idea for a complete re-design. Maybe with a mohawk or such even.

But I realize you're speaking more of a re-design of the engineering behind the figure as much as about the character, which is still cool.

Spin - you are right his scultping and construction ideas are genius. I remember when GR said once he was hoping to emulate some of Sithfire's work. The thing is, he could have the chops for it...if we could just convince him to finish more stuff ;)

This just sounds cool. Seriously, I can't remember the last time I got excited about someone talking about hair before.

Her visual redesign is pretty minor. no more bare midriff. Getting the proper seam lines into it, and not have them be a mess should be interesting. I do want to make some improvements over the old figure. There's only so much you can do with Scarlett's torso. I know, I've tried. :whistling: The vambrace/gauntlet is already much better. The old one was just a piece of tube. This new one has more of the reverse taper my drawings have. Not much work left on it, hope to have it in rubber, soon. The hair wound up getting a heavy rework. I took off everything I'd done the night I bumped this thread, and most of the what was under that. It's out of the mold, now.

I'm hoping to have more pictures by the end of the week. Assuming I don't start messing with the Star Trek models again. The Timbuk III just needs a few more details....

Nope. They'll be the same weapons. I'm hoping I'll be able to slim down her dagger scabbard, though. The current one seems a little bulkier than it needs to be.

Everything came out of the molds, great. Even if it did take two attempts at making the second half of the vambrace mold.

Light and color is all over the place in these pictures, from trying to get the details to show. Disappointed with how little of the vambrace details wound up visible. The sword and dagger are old unused castings. The sword was a bad mix that came out rubbery.

Got Angel's hair sculpted last week, before getting sidetracked with another idea. Her bangs, and that bit that will eventually become the lock of hair she keeps tied off were cut from Mystique's loin cloth thing. It's very rubbery, and works perfectly, for this.

That idea? Another Joe-former. I haven't even finished Wheeljack, yet! Helmet here is a classics seeker head casting, hollowed out.
Image

One shot of the face, before I glue the helmet on permanently:
Image

No, I don't know why I decided to make him a girl. Just a dumb idea that popped into my head, and hasn't let me ignore or forget it. I went with purple for the "makeup, since it's the Decepticon emblem color, and I didn't think red look right, with the dark gray face.

The butt of the joke:
Image
(there's going to be a skirt over this)

And, Jean Grey has been waiting months for me to finish painting her face. I modified a pilot Scarlett head casting, and stuck the original hair onto it. Had to repaint all the metallic blue, since I couldn't match it. The comics always made it look more black or really dark, anyway.
Image

Man! I could not get my camera to focus on these, tonight!
