I don't know Joe, I think you've made it clear it isn't Bruce Wayne, so I think the normal expectations of the appearance are out the window. I mean, when Batman Beyond was introduced, could he really be compared to the Bruce Wayne Batman? Was the lack of blue or gray the issue, or the opaque mask? Maybe initially, but the end result was that it was accepted as a new character. To me, that's what you've done here. If this was looked at as the Batman from...beyond...the Batman Beyond (lol) but as a new character inspired in the same way as previous incarnations, I think that the look you gave him makes total sense. The story really sets him apart in this way, and even makes the flames fit better as far as I'm concerned. With the story, I'd be a bit bored if you had plopped a blue gray pointy eared caped man on us.
