What's the largest you can print, and what is the cost of the 'ink' stuff, and is it available in other colors?

(Not considering this for myself, just seemed like useful general info for those who are)

Thus version goes 6"x6"x6" with a .1mm resolution. The ABS is about $40 for a 2 pound roll and is available in several colors. I just opted for natural to start with.

Last question, if you can estimate an answer... About how many of those daleks, just as reference, do you think you could make from that one roll of plastic?

Gosh, I'm not sure. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe fifteen or so. The sample roll that came with it was just enough to do one Dalek.
I want to add a meter to it to measure plastic used so I can figure out stuff like that. I've seen them listed, and may get one when I order more plastic.

Thanks for all the info. The sounds like a wiki article/ tutorial waiting to happen.

Once I get some more experience under my belt, I'll see what I can do about an article. I've been playing with the printer and some CAD all day just having a blast.

yeah, thanks for answering all the questions. It goes without saying how cool I think your "test" Dalek is, so I'm trying to get a gauge on whether (when?) to start scheming to get one of these into my home. lol

Lol no problem, guys. Mine actually has a semi legitimate reason beyond the toys, since I need to build custom mounts for equipment in my business, but dang if it isn't fun for the toys, too.
I actually have some ideas for 1:18 and 1:24 (my two scales) action figures I want to test. If they work from the printer, then I can send the negative image to my CNC mill to make molds. I'm anxious to share some back with the community.

Just an update on this: I found this article while searching for something else. Last February, the folks at Makerbot (another 3D printer) decided to test how much a single roll of plastic could print. They decided to print chess pieces as a test, and they were able to make 392 pieces from a single roll. That's enough for 12 chess sets.
Hopefully, that helps give a better idea of how much you can print from a single roll.
