Wow, that was quick. I love how well that helmet works.. I guess you can only make a helmet look too cartoony, so popping that on a black body really works, and you can't even tell it was from a diff line.

Also, any plans for a Plasticman neck? I always remember him stretching his neck all over the place, there's gotta be a long neck somewhere out there, or even a 6" long arm or leg from a Mr. Fantastic you can paint and use, seems like they'd be around the right thickness.

Thanks guys.

I was actually torn about whether to try and make the Manta head more like what we would've gotten from DCIH, but I went this way because it felt more classic cartoony.

As for Plastic Man, I have been thinking about the neck. Mister Fantastic accessories are a good suggestion, and I need some of those for MU Reed Richards anyway.

Thanks again.

I think you could sculpt a neck for Plastic man if that's a direction you wanted to go. Manta turned out nice, glad I could inspire you with mine. I was really happy with how the pocket heroes head works with the MU scale. Aquaman looks better too. That Duke head really screams Aquaman, I remember I really liked Iron Will's Aquaman too with that head. I may have to do a classic look down the road with that head now.

Glad the Duke head worked out for you, know that was one of the better DCs you liked of mine when you posted on it.

Thanks for the comments, guys. And Will, thanks for reminding me where else I'd seen that head used for Aquaman. I was torn between that and the Steve Rogers head, but there really is a fishy feel to this one's stare.

Now on to another bad guy.

This is one that I've been kicking around for some time conceptually and wasn't even sure how to begin to tackle, probably because I wasn't sure exactly which version I was going to try and emulate.

While I was never much of a New Gods fan as a comic reader, I really grew to enjoy the characters -- particularly the bad guys -- through the DC animated universe. And since I already had a Darkseid in my growing collection of MU-scaled DC characters, I figured I might as well take a crack at his oldest boy and would-be enforcer:

This is really a compromise between his more recent toon appearance and his classic comic/old-school HB toon look. I went this route mostly because I liked the idea of Kalibak being a slightly more bestial reflection of his dad and thought the new toon took his look a little too far in the "Where the Wild Things Are" direction while his earlier appearances made him look too much like a non-furry, barbarian version of Marvel's Hank McCoy.

Here's a shot of my Special K and his pops on "Take Your Son to Work Day":

The colors are a little bright for me, but I'm really digging the recipe. Is that a Super-Powers head?

Really like this one. As an experiment, if you had an extra head I would try scooping the face out and inserting the Sabertooth head for a more detailed face. Just an experiment idea, but I like this one as is.

Thanks guys.

That is a Super Powers head. Hadn't thought about Sabretooth. Kind of want to compare scale now.

Appreciate the comments.

I agree the colors are bright but I like everything else about him. Good mix of styles. The Hulk base is a good sculpt that works well for this character.

Putting the brightness of color aside for a moment (it doesnt bother me) the actual likeness is quite impressive. Not only does it look like a nice, beefy villain action figure but it LOOKS like Kalibak who isnt your average looking humanoid character.

Awesome! The planet Hulk was a perfect base, nicely done! The colors may be bright, but they are very smooth and clean. I like this all around.

Thanks guys.

I used the DC Universe BAF as a guide for the colors (\they were my junior high school colors, so I talked myself into liking them). Plus there's something ironically princely and regal/refined about the rich green, vibrant yellow and gold that makes it seem just that much more out of place on a brute like Kalibak, whom I envision as having a rather deluded opinion of himself.

The hardest part of getting this right was the feet. I wanted to use the sandal thong to help create the impression of the two-toed look he sports in the recent toon and comic appearances, but leave open the possibility that he has normal-ish feet inside the boots. Required a lot of filling and shaping between his toes.

Glad you guys dig the design.

Okay, so apparently I can't stop working on these DC customs.

Captain Atom is one I've had pieced together for a while. Finally got around to painting him last night:

I know he's not totally classic comic accurate, but I've never liked the blue boots and I really kind of dig the character's look from the Young Justice toon.

What do you guys think?
