She said she wanted to try, so I gave her a new sculpt Scarlett prototype to paint. She is actually a pretty good oil painter, so I thought she'd do an ok first custom. The only advice I gave her was to prime it. Other than that she said she wanted to figure it out herself.

So here's my sister's first, and hopefully not last custom... :)

Cool colors, very 90's look. A bit shiny though.

I think the paint job looks good. Paints are too glossy. You could easily hit it with a matte clear coat and it would help. Other than that, it is a nice paint job

yeah, how did the face turn out? Looks good in the pictures.

Don't let her stray, we need all the customizers we can get to combat Big H's lack of talent.

Dang that's better than yours Soulgem. :D Seriously, the colors pop in a good way. The paint on the face looks really good as well.

In general, she used too much paint. This shows both on the face and on the various joints. I blame this on the fact that she's not used to our toys and their articulation. She was still painting like she would with oil on canvas - using tons of paint and tons of sealer. She also agreed with me afterwards that it would have been better with matte sealer.
I really like that she painted her hair with copper or gold or something. It gives the figure that manga/otherworldly look. I also like the color combination, allthough I would have preferred a darker green.

I will force her to make another one. I'll get a couple of more new sculpt girls for her to customize.

But yes, like Pluv says, this is better than my first custom.

Nice Job for a first custom.

Interesting color combo, and I like the boots. She has a space cadet kinda look to her.

you could probably still hit it with a matte sealer and tone it down. The thickness of the paint is the only real issue I have with it. You can tell some of the scarlett details are getting lost in the thick paint. maybe strip her back down and redo it with thinner coats of paint. since it came unpainted it'd probably be easy to get it back down to the base to start from scratch. If not I am sure I have some newsculpt fodder i can send your way for her.

Excellent first go at it! She's already gotten good advice, so I've got nothing to add...except keep it up and learn something new every time you do another!
