Okay, so when I saw the images of Cobra Island Zap I thought I was going to pillage the figure's accessories and try to sell off the naked remainder. I just didn't like those goofy lower legs on any other figure that's used them and they didn't look any better in the pictures I'd seen.

But once I had it in hand, I realized that Hasbro had fixed its mistake by sculpting some new upper legs that actually work well with those lowers. In fact, I was wrong across the board, as it turns out I really didn't like the new Web gear and belt as much as I thought I would.

So I went about trying to outfit the suprisingly cool Cobra Island Zap in a way that would make it worthy of the name and more reminiscent of the character's original design.

Here's where I landed:

I liked the results of my Zap experiment so much that I decided to apply the same exact recipe to a new Short Fuze custom (after all, Zap and Fuze need to look pretty much exactly alike in terms of uniform design to satisfy my obsessive/compulsive collecting needs).

Here's how that second experiment ended up:

What do you guys think? Improvements over Hasbro's designs?

I think they look great. I think the new uppers will come in handy for alot of tweaking to current figures. The Short Fuze head is amazing, how did you do those glasses?

Zap looks good, but I have to echo Bad Ash and Bucky, that Short Fuze steals the show with the head and glasses.

Thanks, fellas.

The head on Fuze is the same one I've used on every version of the character I've made since SpyTroops. I just always thought it had the young and fish-eyed appearance of an awkward math geek:

The new specs came off of Henry Jones Sr.

Glad you guys are digging him.

Why couldn't Hasbro make that SF?

It's the best one I've ever seen.

They could. All the parts are fairly recent Hasbro releases:

Head = BTR Duke
Torso, arms and helmet = comic pack 25th Hawk
Upper legs, hands and backpack = Cobra Island 25th Zap
Lower legs = Ultimate Battle Pack 25th Short Fuze
Glasses = Henry Jones Sr.
Harness = DVD Battles 25th Dusty
Belt = 25th Flash

And they wouldn't even have to paint-match if they just molded the whole thing in the right color.

;)

Thanks for the kind words.

Amazing work on both of them. I'm going to have to steal that Short Fuze head recipe (or get as close as possible) when I get back home.
