I am in the planning stages of building a 5 foot play set of the PIT. It will have 5 sub leavles and the G.I.Joe HQ on the top. I am asking for any ideas and photos that my give me ideas so that I can finish the plans and make a list of things that I will need. I am looking for anything that you might think that would be in the Pit. Anything that you think would be cool. I would love to see photos of other custom HQ's to see what is out there. Thank you |

The hardest thing for me was the elevators and stairs. You can pick up plastic shelving that will give you a great structure, and even put lighting in it. But if you want to cut holes, build elevators or stairs for it, it's a huge pain the the ass. I went with a fake elevator structure that was built out of BTR. IT wasn't great, but it was certainly ok. I have to post the pics of my intel station to FLIKR or something. Sadly my PITT got disassembled and stored with most of my joes. Parts of it will live on in mini dios on my shelf though. - R |

I bought three cheap 5ft hgh book cases and affixed them back to back (with the backs removed obviously. Something I didn't figure out until late was that it gets really dark in there. So I installed some cheap rope-lighting - but wiring the lighting first, before setting up the walls and graphics would have been much more conveinant. Like you I had the HQ on top. On the top shelf I had extra HQ lifts that were supposed to represent the lifts raising the vehicles to the surface. As for the other levels, I had elevator door graphics on a side wall and just imagined they used an elevator. I didn't see a reason to put in a real elevator. Unfortunately when I moved the thing didn't hold up. I hope to remake it one day. -David |
