It's been about 4 months since I posted anything. Here are some new figures I've been working on. Most are tweaks or repaints. On the bottom I have some paint jobs for some Slayer Design heads. Hope you enjoy pictures and thanks for looking

General Hawk

There were aspects to this figure I really didn't like. Namely the cartooney face as well as his holster and his shoulder holster. I gave him a new shoulder holster from a BBI figure and also gave him a modified Vintage Bespin Luke holster form 2007. Ended up being almost a perfect replacement.
After that I gave the entire figure a repaint.

General Hawk Version 3

Although this design was so over the top I loved it when it came out. Terminator 2 had just come out and I loved having my guys suited up for some future war. I saw General Hawk as a kind of John Connor when they had the older actor playing him in T2. I wanted to update this look a bit though so I used the canceled Ripcord figure from the GiJoe movie and painted him to resemble the good General. Gave him some vintage weaponry and that was it.

Lift Ticket

Always liked this guy, ironically he always reminded me of Lee Majors and now Lee Majors is the voice of General Hawk. Anyway hated the big hips (shaved them down), hated the head sculpt (gave him Chuckles head from the box set), hated his big ass vest (trimmed that down too), lastly gave him a holster, and sculpted on some pouches on his legs to bring him closer to his original look. Pretty happy with the final result.

Recondo

Another favorite of mine. Always dug this figure and the character a lot. Wanted to bring the box set version closer in the line with the original look. Gave him a Range Viper holster, repainted his head, added rolled up sleeves to his arms, gave him some Flint arms, and an overall repaint much much happier with him now.

Ripcord

This is Ripcord, not Airborne, or Airflight, or whatever they called him. I wanted a vintage looking Ripcord so I went about working on the one that came in the box set. Gave him a BBI head, sculpted details to his torso to bring him more inline with the original figure's look and gave him some vintage weaponry. Also gave him a Star Wars mynock hunt mask, and a BBI helmet and visor. Much happier with him now. Lastly gave him new upper legs from a ROC figure to bring his look more inline with the original figure.

Spearhead

I'm starting to delve into the later year Joe characters, after the Sunbow cartoon was off the air. I always liked Spearhead but as with a lot of characters in this time frame there aren't too many stories that focused on him. One things Sunbow did an awesome job on was bringing the characters to life. That was lost when the show was canceled. However there were still some really cool guys. I wanted to update Spearhead's look a bit though and the POC figures really lend to some great fodder. He is mix of ROC Duke parts, POC Dusty, and a POC Beachhead vest. I also did some minor sculpting to his boots and

Here are some Slayer Design head sculpts that Bekker asked me to paint up. Really nice sculpting work on these that lend to a lot of detail and fun in painting them up. The head sculpts are currently up for sale over at the Slayer site.

Thanks for looking!

Not a bad one in the bunch. They all look incredible. Spearhead especially stands out to me, and I'd never even heard of him, before.

I want that Ripcord. I liked the figure, when I was a kid. Loved all his removable gear. You made a perfect update.

Great seeing some new ones from you, Dave. Absolutely no critiques from me. Well, maybe one- to see some more sooner next time. =)

Wonderful job on General Hawk (v1), Ripcord and Spearhead. Those are my favorites and General Hawk the best of the three. I normally don't like stuff other than ARAH, but these are good!
Recondo seems very good too, but his shirt is too "clean" in some way.

So glad to see you're still making art! These are all wonderful, but the v2 General Hawk is all kinds of amazing. LOVE IT!

Big improvements on the ones from the sngle card releases and boxed sets. Shows just how close Hasbro came on each of them.

Hawk v. 2 is awesome. I was wondering when someone would get around to that conversion. And you've set a high bar.

Spearhead's a great figure, but it's a little jarring to think of him as Spearhead when all the rest of your customs so closely resemble the original figure and he, well, doesn't. I guess, as much as I disliked the original Spearhead, I'd challenge you to put more of that original design into your rendition. Especially after seeing how cool you made Hawk v. 2 look.

I like Spearhead fine, but I think you should have updated his gun. It makes him obviously spearhead but I think you could do a better job of making it look current.

fantastic stuff dave, really like them all and I too think spearhead is kinda up towards the top in there, you always do great updates to make the figures look better. I would buy all of them if in the store for sure, and like john said we need to see more sooner

Really like that update to Spearhead. A perfect POC update. And is that a knife on Recondo's left leg?

Greyryder thanks I appreciate the comments. Spearhead was released in the late 80's and showed up in a couple of panels I think of the comic. There really wasn't ever much time spent on him so I think he is a relatively unknown Joe to most folks.

JFAK075 haha thanks John! Yeah it sucks I used to have so much time to crank these out and now it just doesn't happen as quickly as it used to. I have a bunch more and an entire small tackle box of about 15 guys that I'm assembling parts for. I have about another 4 on deck and a few non Joe customs I've been working on as well.

Tim 121RVC thanks yeah his shirt is much girttier in person but the lighting blew some of it out.. I noticed that when I took pictures but liked the overall shots so decided to go with it anyway.

DanOfTheDead thanks man I appreciate that. That Gen Hawk v2 is one of my favorites also glad you like it!

Spin Doctor thanks Spin. I had considered doing a pretty much copy of the original Spearhead but to be honest there were elements to his design I just didn't like (same as Gen Hawk v2) I wanted to modernize Spearhead's look to something that was more infantry and modern and wanted to stay away from the high jackboots and samurai looking vest. I also never understood why he had an ammo belt around his chest when his gun didn't hold those bullets. I also wanted to absolutely get away from the red camo. There are some figures like Airtight, Lightfoot, etc with their bright yellow that works for their specialty. They will most likely not be on the battlefield during combat but in more covert places testing stuff out. For the pointman of the Joes to have red camo was a bit too much for me personally.

DarkJedi the sweat marks are actually there but the flash blew them out sadly.

pluv his gun has always been one of my favorites which was why I went with it. I try to bring an element of the original figure into the customs and his gun was one that I loved as a kid and really wanted in my version of him.

Tanstoys thanks I appreciate that. More coming soon !

Crosshair thanks I'm glad you like him and yes that is a knife on Recondo's leg. I had wanted to make something a little bit better, such as a belt that it hung from that fit under his "skirt" but I couldn't quite get it to work. Might go back at some point and refine it though so it fits more inline with what I had originally pictured.

Oneforceleader thanks very much.. Actually been jammed packed between grad school, my film company, directing, and a variety of other things. Going to be getting more into this stuff though since it is such a fun hobby to have.

unknownsoldier13 thanks man I appreciate that!

xhairs thanks buddy as always I appreciate the comments.

That's it guys more stuff coming soon. Right now I'm staring at a General Joe Colton, Flint, Downtown, and a few others that need a few finishing touches. I hope to have them up after Christmas.
Thanks again
Dave

As usual, all of these are improvements on the Hasbro releases. The little detail swaps and muted colors make such a huge difference. My faves are Spearhead and jet pack Hawk. That's just a kick-ass update of the former, and a really clever conversion for the latter. Can't believe we haven't seen a bunch of these by now, as it works so well. My only critique would be to give Ripcord his red hair. Other than that these are perfect.
