Made this from an IM2 4" Mk III armor. I smoothed out the chest with Squadron putty, and used a template to cut the star shaped unibeam from thin styrene. The shoulder plates were lifted from a Marvel Universe Iron Man. The red is Model Master clear red over MM flat insignia red. The blue is MM arctic blue metallic over regular Testors blue. The white is just Model Master white Primer. The little detail bits are Tamiya gunmetal. I used that instead of silver to try to make the armor look a little less advanced than the Iron Man armor proper. A few places were left flat red, for the same reason. I used some of the arctic blue on the eyes, to make them stand out a bit from the white face plate. I didn't have any reference pictures of the back of the armor, so I just made it up. (As I type this, I suddenly wonder if I shouldn't have alternated the plates over the spine in red and white.)

These pictures did not come out worth a damn. :(

The only halfway decent picture I could get of the face, was in the silly comic I shot.

Speaking of that silly comic....

While you may not be happy with your pictures, I'm really impressed by this piece. I love the look of the Iron Patriot armor from the comics and you captured it perfectly. Let's hope that the upcoming Marvel Universe 3 3/4" figure looks as good. Honestly the only real issue I have is the hands (which are out of your control, I love the IRON MAN 2 product coming out except I hate the hands on almost all of the Iron Man suits--the closed fists usually work well, but I wish that they didn't have the open hand or the awkward hand that is on the Iron Man in your "silly comic", which was a very nice addition). The sculpting you did was really great, and I like how much extra bulk it has compared to the more streamlined Iron Man.

Thanks. The sculpting was almost nonexistent, and I think the only extra bulk is from those shoulder plates. (Which looked ridiculous on the MU fig's almost effeminate build) The open hands work well for "repulsor blast" poses, but I do often find myself wishing for swappable fists. I think the Power Assault/Inferno armor gets it the worst. Both hands are open, and the right one looks like it just got stepped on by Iron Monger.

I took a comparison shot, with an unmodded Mk III. I tried to get the chests and abdomens at roughly the same angles. I played with my lighting and camera settings to get a clearer shot. I finally got some pics that didn't completely wash out the face on Iron Patriot.

This figure looks great. I think you did an excellent job nailing this character!

Thanks! The Mk III is so close to that armor, I found it hard to go wrong.

Sharp, very sharp.

The red looks good, which is always a hard color to work with in such large amounts.

Thanks guys. VP, I think I've seen one small picture of that. Isn't based on the Mk IV armor, which isn't even shaped like the armor in the comic?

it's a recolor of the extremus armor in the current Marvel Universe wave, and most likely the reason for the arc unit being an add on rather than molded into the design

I was thinking American Son (Harry Osborn for those like me that where outta the loop) could use the similar formula and use an Accelerator helmet

I just looked up pictures of that thing. That chest emblem would be a nightmare. I think I'll leave him for somebody else. I've got way too many customs sitting half finished, right now.
