I wanted to do a little something different with my dios and of course space is always an issue, so I decided to go vertical. I didn't want to just hang a rock on the wall so went the casting plaster route, that way I could mount the materials on the wooden base. Best part is if I get tired of looking at it I just change the figures around for something new. I'd like to do a couple of these to hang next to each other. Maybe go with a different environment as well. Let me know what you think.

That is exceptionally bad-ass. Not only is it a cool-ass idea, but you did an outstanding job making the terrain look realistic. I don't suppose you have any WIP pics, do you?

I've got those same rock molds - I gotta give this one a try -- thanks for the idea!

Thanks. Sorry, I don't have any in progress pictures. I wanted to keep my camera as far away from the plaster as possible. I'm kind of messy and that stuff gets everywhere.

It looks AMAZING. Only critique would be that's a lot of wall space with relatively little space for figures... but that's just a minor gripe.

This is very, very cool. So you just used the rock molds that you find at Hobby Lobby?

I really like the idea and it look s fantastic. I do agree though that for your next one you add some more ledges, maybe a cave or over hanging, and have some vertical cracks in the rock face to use for more hand holds.

Thanks everybody. I'm pretty pleased with it myself. I need to hang this one up and stop messing with it. I have a bad habit of finding those little imperfections or wanting to add that last little detail.

Correct, the large areas are rock molds, the rest is poured plaster that I worked by hand until I got the shape I was looking for. I will have somebody take some WIP pictures for my next one. The Artic cave.

Added another shot

Wow, this ROCKS!!! ;-)
You should make a tutorial for this stuff. Would be a great addition to JCWiki.
