Hi E1 I'm originally from The Tank. But I was browsing through this site and saw some of the customs by the members..

I just recently got into customizing. But I've always been artistic so I'm hoping to get some knowledge from everywhere I can to get my skillz rockin!

My first attempt at a custom figure is the 90's edition of SALVO. Recreated in the 25th Modern Era style.

I saw someone else already made a version of him, and it came out pretty tight..what i liked most about it was, well the letters on the chest. I gotta admit that I had a lot of trouble writing the letters, so I improvised best I could.

The parts I used were:
head - serpentor
torso - outback (assault on cobra island)
arms - sgt stone
hands - duke (omega force 5pk)
legs - freefall (assault on cobra island)
also added some accessories around his legs, and chest, and waste.

Nice job on Salvo. You have done a good job for your first custom. Welcome to JoeCustoms and looking forward to seeing more work. A tip for the "The Right of Might" on Salvo's t-shirt, you could use an extra fine silver or white sharpie and write it out. Water slide decals work well, but are difficult to use. I know how hard it is to paint letters. Give the sharpie a try, just try and find the extra fine ones.

Welcome!

And great job on the Salvo update - excellent parts choices and a super-clean paint job.

Can't wait to see more from you.

agreed with everyone else, very nice job and that is how salvo should look, if hasbro made him they could follow your formula. Waterslide decals are cool but I have no idea how they work, wish I did. Keep posting here and welcome aboard,
Tim

thnx for all the reply's e1. I'm not very familiar with waterslides? but the sharpie idea sounds like it might work. not sure how it will take to the acrylic paint tho. And I'm already working on another few figures and a night force version of the vintage tomahawk.. looks like it's gonna come out pretty nice. I'll post pics when I finish it,

Salvo's one of my favorites so it is really great to see him done justice in the modern sculpt. I like the use of the bullets on his legs. It helps bulk them up. Water slide decals would be the way to go for something small and exact, but for Salvo's shirt you can get away with making it look hand written. Sharpie makers will work on paint but you may need to have a piece of papper near by. I don't know why but a few times I had markers stop writing on the paint and stop working altogether. So I started having a piece of paper to scribble on in between strokes to draw the ink out better. That seems to have worked.

You can get ultra fine single sharpies in a variety of colors at Hobby Lobby.

Salvo looks pretty good, my one critque is the way the hands and forearms come together it. It doesn't look right. Of course Hasbro doesn't get this right in a lot of cases. Perhaps you could add some bulk to the gloves with some green stuff?

Great first custom! Looking forward to seeing more from you. Yeah I think the hand done look is fine for his shirt.

Great work, very clean, and replicates the original figure extremely well. I am glad that you opted to go without the words. Makes the figure look cleaner.
