It's like a two-for-one deal or something today! I don't post a custom for months and now you get two! I haven't worked with a 12" figure before. They're not my favorite scale even tho my uncle's 12" Joes were my intro to the line way back. In spite of that, I wanted a Shipwreck (like you didn't know...) and had started collecting what I needed, planning to use a 12" ROC Duke as a base. Never got around to it and then kiddo scored a Spytroops Shipwreck for me at the PA Meet this past weekend. That got me all tickled over the idea again! Unfortunately all I've got are WIP pics at the moment because I'm having a tough time getting decent pics. Hope to get the finished ones tomorrow when I have decent light. Spytroops Shipwreck, before: And original head and my additions: Before I even did any sculpting, the blue eyes had to go...that just wasn't my Shipwreck. I generally don't mind the goatee, but my quintessential Shipwreck has a beard. I really wanted to go all out on the hair giving it that longer feel, but I kept it shorter so the hats would still fit. More tomorrow! |

Finally! The pics aren't great...seemed no matter what I tried I just couldn't get consistent quality or a completely crisp pic of the entire figure. Of course my favorite look is the Sunbow/'84 figure look, but the sweater and knit cap look grew on me, too. I miss the tattoo, but I didn't want to mess with changing arms and all that...haven't explored how the joints are put together and if they come apart. I do wish he had the hinged hands so he could hold his guns better. I'll probably try to find a better shotgun at some point. Various head shots: For some reason in these pics, he looks sad to me, like at the end of Springfield part 2. Close ups of Polly: Just a plastic parrot I got in a package of birds...don't even remember where. Everything that's now green used to be blue, and I fixed up his eyes and feet. Probably not accurate to any real parrot out there and isn't 100% the Sunbow version, either, but I like how he came out. I doubt I'll really do any other 12" customs...who knows...it was just one of those things I needed to try because Shipwreck just wasn't himself. It was definitely easier than the smaller scales, but I just don't like the proportions of these figures. Barrel chested and skinny hipped, and toothpick legs. I had to use superglue in the ankle joints (moving the joint while it cured) to stiffen them up so he could stand on his own because he's so top heavy. I'd love to know how the Sideshow figs compare! If they come out with Shipwreck...I'm all over that! |

Very cool indeed, the head reminds me of the guy who played the cop in Birds Of Prey. |

Nice sculpting! I think you could switch the head onto a shirtless body, and then give the tattoo... (this is not a critique, but more of a suggestion as to how you can have the figure the way you wanted it). -Todd |

Thanks guys! Shakka85 wrote: Nice sculpting! I think you could switch the head onto a shirtless body, and then give the tattoo... I kind of like having him both ways, but I might eventually do that if I can learn more about their construction. |

Great work, especially on the facial hair. I'm not usually into this scale, but i love the versatility of the figure with the change of outfits. |
