So, the Mamba was probably my favorite gijoe toy when I was a kid. I haven't done a vehicle custom yet, but I figure it's like building a model, only bigger - and more fun.

This build is gonna be based off the idea that the Joe's confiscated this particular Mamba and added it to their fleet. I'm planning on a desert camo scheme... unless someone has a better idea.

Washed it with soap and warm water and removed all stickers. Primer's still drying (2nd coat) - probably won't see first coat of paint until tonight or tomorrow...

That should turn out very nice, excellent project.

You sometimes don't realize just how much detail is in the vintage sculpts until the brighter colors (in this case the purple) are removed from the equation.

I had to flip back and forth. The primer really brings the details to the fore front. I'd love to take a crack at a vintage vehicle myself. I'm eager to see how your overall project comes out.

looking great

any ideas for a name or pilot?

in the 90's there was a dc villian named Mamba and her rival was the Teen Titan Pantha, which was also the one time fillername for Sigma6 flint

I haven't thought about a pilot at this point, maybe after all is said and done. This next pic will give you a good idea of where I'm going with the overall color scheme. I've had this idea of mimicking the camo patterns of WWII fighters - a light underbelly that blends with the sky, with a camo pattern on the topside that blends with it's surroundings while it's on the ground.

After looking at the two halves together - they ironically look like a snake, with the white belly and darker skin on top.

I am excited to see this completed and am happy you have been posting the evolution as you work it!

I have the perfect name for the pilot or aircraft based on this:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_eats_a_black_mamba

A "mongoose" of course. Another idea is "snake-eater".

"preybird" as it preys on mambas or the often used "anti-venom"

Cheers!
