My wife, a die-hard Packer fan, was aghast after my son asked what the name of the character I was customizing during the Super Bowl was and learned it was "Steeler." I tried to cheer her up by pointing out that at least the main colors were green and gold:

Steeler was always one of my favorite Joes. In fact, with the distinctive torso and flashy accent color, I always played him as the team's leader (until I figured ou rank structure). So I was a little disappointed when both 25th versions just recycled the Original 13 parts and slapped his name on the result without even giving him his distinctive visor.

Points to Hasbro for giving us a desert version though. I liked that idea so much that I took it:

The overall design for both figures is based on my beloved v.1 from 1983 and what I thought was a suprisingly cool take on the character from the 2007 Con.

For the head, though, I drew inspiration from the cartoon version:

So what do you guys think? Worthy?

Looks great Spin. The Fred head works for Steeler. You should make one in black and maize after the Pittsburgh Steeler's uniform.

He looks good but where did the blond hair come in at? I can't remember if he had the brown hair on the cartoon or if it was just the comic and early figures. But yeah he works well for Steeler.

From the knees up they both look great but there's something ... off ... about the lower legs. Maybe if they were a different shade of green/tan respectively they might look better.

Thanks, guys.

I agree on the boots. I just used these because they came on the Rampage figure I cannibalized.

I'll look for some strappier, high-riding footwear for both versions.

Oh...and Steeler did have the blonde wavy locks in the toon, displayed most prominently in that alternate universe episode where he and Grunt leave our dimension to fix the Conra-dominated world.

Steeler was my fave as a kid, and you've done him justice here for sure Ray. Once you get the boots adjusted, I'll have nothing to critique. I like that you made both versions mirror images, parts wise.

I had a similar thing in mind for the head, with the wavy hair and all, when I went with the Trakker head for mine. I like Fred's also. The coat you used comes off as absolutely perfect with your Desert version. Something there really just works for me. I get the brown coat on the mainline version too, especially as an homage to his later figures also. But I hope to see you add to this list with one that is a more direct homage to the first figure also. It is a tough recipe to figure out to get close to that original figure look though.

I love these but he needs the boots. Be sure to repost when you replace those so I can mentally steal it.

Personally I like the newer O13 boots that the 25th Clutch figure has and think they'd look good here.
