Torstein Skullcleaver of Vanaheim, son of Sigurd the Eccentric:

Image

Image

Entire figure: Comic Pack Thor
Axe: Papo

Vanaheim iis one of the most North-Western states of Hyboria. It's people are the Vanir, a red-headed race of warriors whose traditional hated enemies are the aesir of Asgard, and the Cimmerians, both races they have had a blood-feud with for centuries. One of the closest modern analagies that can be made is the Vikings of the Dark Ages, although the Vanir are not noted seamen.

When I started planning this figure, the first base that came to mind was the comic pack version of Thor. When I finally got it in hand, I realised how simple it would be. Take the wings off the helmet and remodel it, sculpt a moustache and beard, softgoods for the fur, a repaint and a honking big axe. I picked up the triple headed Papo axe in a pack of weapons, and it was a no-brainer for this custom.

The look is based on real viking helmets and illustrations of the Vanir in the old Marvel Conan comics. There is an injoke in his name.

Thanks, but the 'fur' is cut-offs from a face-cloth, same with the cloak.

Bought two packs a few months ago. This is what I got:

Bought them from a toy shop about 30 miles away. You can get them off Ebay, but it will be random what you get in a pack. Usually a couple of shields, a lance and 7 swords and axes. Over here in the UK, they are normally about £4 ($6) a pack. Unless they have gone up in price like everything else.

Do the weapons come off the of the figures? Cause I think Target and Toys-R-Us sell them or something close to it.

Some come off easily, some you might have to cut into the hands to get them off. The easiest way is to see if the weapon swivels in the hand.

Seriously awesome work, and you helped me solve a creative problem. I have been looking for in vain a rounded helm like that one, but with the Viking style faceguard. I have two horns to put on it facing down, like the new DragonBorn that graces the Bethesda Site under Elder Scrolls. I so want to make that guy as a custom to add to my next round of Oblivion and Morrowind customs, since Skyrim debuts 11.11.11. Gotta' make that DragonBorn. So I should use Thor's helm, and maybe add the faceguard from the Schleich battleaxe swinger... then affix the horns...Thanx!
