This was the set I made for my End of Days: Road Rage Dio-Story. I spend just over six months putting it together. WIP pics . . . I used sections of plexi glass for the base totaling 6'X12'. For the plexi base I used the following to transform it into a road . . . My kids helped with painting the bottom . . . The shiny one is turned over with an unpainted top. The second is sprayed with textured paint- one coat . . . . Over the six months I collected bits and pieces- like casting fire hydrants . . . The sidewalks were made from 1/4" plexi (With this project I tried to do everything on a budget, since the set was mainly done for the one Dio scene). I created six different building for the Dio . .. (Here's the how to) . . . http://wiki.joecustoms.com/wiki/Building_Facade Apartment building (in the alley you can see the Left 4 Dead crew. I shot a scene for the Dio-Story with them in, but wound up not using it). Pool hall . . . Liquor store . . . Speed shop . . . Under construction . . . Office building . . . Overview, with my nephew and son for size reference . . . I used craft paint to do the lines in the street, and curb side. After I sprayed everything with a clear coat so the streets could stay outside without getting damaged. Random shots. . . Overall I'm happy with the turn out, especially when considering that I made this for one Dio-Story. But now I have it for future custom pics. |

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the feedback. The street gets put between my neighbors fence and mine (so it's basically hidden), and the buildings get stored in the rafters of my garage. The dumpster I made from styrene. |

That is truly magnificent. There is a heckuva lot of work gone into that. I applaud you. Using cheap child labour, though. tut-tut! |

Ahh, they loved it. The hard part was telling them, with some of it, that they couldn't help. |

Outstanding. Thanks for the step by steps. I have no critiques, just sitting here in awe. I love the flat tires. All the details are superb!!! |

I actually would have added more detail- mailboxes, street lights, etc. But in the end this was just put together for one story scene (though I'll use it again if the story calls for another City shot). |

When I get a house with a basement and make sets on this scale, I'll have a hard time not leaving them out on a large table. I imagine my son would demand that anyway, so he could play when I wasn't shooting scenes. lol Awesome job John. Love the details. Has to be a heavy SOB though, right? |

That is crazy cool. I'd be so impressed with myself that I would find different reasons to use it as a back drop. |

Wow, your attention to details really pays off. Excellent work. Too bad "regular" 1:18 cars are hard to come by. |

I wish I had a spot for it to stay set up full-time. We tried to sell our house ('08-'10) with no luck. We were going to get one with a basement, but some plans just don't work out. But even broke down set up time isn't that bad at all. Just matters how much "stuff" you need out. |
