Blame this one on Kilcarr -- he got the stupid idea in my head of painting up a Skystriker (a plane I had no interest in buying) like Jetfire.

So I'm trying for this G1 look:

And so far, I'm getting about as close as I care to:

I decided to make the red on the wings wider than just pinstripes so they'd fit better with the actual sculpt of the wing. Same with the other slight variations - I adjusted to make them fit in with the different details on the Skystriker mold.

Still waiting on some decals from Cobrastickers, and I'll apply some of the actual Skystriker stickers once the sealant dries a little more. It needs a slight touch-up here and there where the paint masking bled a little and I want to paint a few details, but I'm pretty much done with the major work.

Then all that's left to do is figure out how to make it look like this:

Trying to figure out the best way to work the "jetpack" thingies. I'm thinking that if I get a couple of space-looking cheap plastic squirt guns and mod them heavily and paint them red, it should work well enough, but I haven't found anything yet that really works.

Anyone have any ideas on an easy way to build the jetpack?

Not sure on the jetpacks, but this looks great!

Well the problem is the rocket boosters require the tailfins to fold up.

Track down the Exo-Squad Veritech fighter. It has the boosters and they are about as close to this scale as you'll find. That would be the most accurate way to do these but I have no idea what it will cost you to find them.

Also? Love/hate that you painted the new Skystriker as Jetfire. It makes me want to do it myself and I don't have near the skills enough to pull it off as well as you did. Bravo my man, bravo.

Chief,
What about trying to cut up and use the sides from one of the Target Exclusive red Cobra jetpacks as a base for those top mount thrusters? They have a similar shape and with some modding, they might just work.

Nice Chief. if you showed me the picture and told me it was painted like a G1 T-Former and asked me to guess. I could have gotten it right. The color scheme looks great with the way you modified it to fit the Skystriker. He was my second favorite G1 toy behind Soundwave.

aren't there veritech boosters in 1:32 scale? Or is it 1:40th?

anyway if I remember right the skystriker and dragonfly where both roughly 1:32nd scale with some modifications.

there where some really cheap Veritech nockoffs, couldn't transform and cheap dollarstore plastic. I had an LT that collected all things veritech and a had a couple. they might have had a booster set for those too.

I was going to suggest Using those Cobra Jetpacks in conjunction with Rolling Thunder "ICBM" Missiles.... I really like the look when I used that combo in the Spacenoks GP. http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/custo ... apethunder

And you need lots of "NO STEP" stickers...lots and LOTS of them.

I immedialy thought of the Cobra jetpack also. IN addition the shape is reminsecint of the SW Mandolarian speeder bike, or even maybe a wii remote.....

One thought occured to me, whatever you use for the jet packs, could you cut vertical slots in the jet pack bodies for it to slide OVER the tailfins?

I see those jetpacks and the first thing I think is that big weird cannon that came with the deluxe Wolverine: Origins Deadpool.

This is some sharp paintwork by the way. That's a mighty purty plane.

Looks sharp. The paint really makes it look completely different, almost geometrically different, the way camo does for humans.

Fantastic. No suggestion for boosters though.

I was just about to suggest the same thing. Add a booster to it and fill it in and boom. http://generalsjoes.com/wp-content/gall ... Cannon.jpg

Can it transform?
:shifty:

Love it. I think with the suggestions for the boosters, it'll really bring it home after some stickers applied. :)
