Post subject: | Damaged and abandoned AT-AT |
Over the summer I went to a flea market where a woman gave me an incomplete AT-AT. She said she didn't want to take it home and was going to toss it. I took with with plans to customize it in some way. What I first did was bash the legs on to a PTE tank. While I liked the idea I didn't like the overall look. So I put the AT-AT back together. Then I replaced the missing hatch cover and scratch built the two missing guns under the "head". The side guns were also missing, so I used two GI Joe spring loaded weapons to replace the side guns. Then I began looking up custom AT-ATs online and found Dimitri Kaliviotis' 1/32 damaged and abandoned AT-AT. I knew I wanted something similar. After nine hours this is what I came up with . . . I imagine this AT-AT would have been left sitting for several years. Pictures are flash and no flash. I plan on leaving it outside and taking some pics as the seasons change. |

Nice. Boy would a salvage team love to come upon that methinks. I wonder if a group of mechanically inclined individuals with lots of tools and parts, would they be able to get that thing going again? |

I Love it but damn if you don't make the strangest stuff. I have no imagination for that kind of stuff I should send you my old one. Or have you finish my bat-rhino. |

Wow! that's a real work of art, from the tree growing out of it to the gun hanging on by a few wires it's amazing. I can imagine being Joe sized and staring up at that thing. It would be scary hearing it creak in the wind, it honestly looks haunted and if you leave it outside it will get haunted for real, by a spider! P.s. where can I get a closer look at that awesome Devastator? is it a costume or something? |

Glad you guys are diggin this. Thanks. Aegis- I was going to do a Dio scene where someone finds it and comments about restoring it . ..then it started raining out. lol joemichaels70- Devastator is under the awning on the side of my house. He's reasonably safe there from the elements. gijoey- Get 'er done, man! lol Tanstoys- They're welcome to play with it, but I'm not sure they're interested. They both went for the stock on I have after checking the custom out. And my son doesn't care for the mods on this one. G.I.JAC- Had Devastator posted back in '08. It was my long term project for that year. Here is the thread . . . viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9729&hilit=devastator |

I like the idea of you keeping it out, especially with all that sand in there, lol. Really nice job John. Wonder if "real" weathering will enhance the look you created or take away from it. lol. I had also wondered about it's restoration potential in a SW setting. I'd have to think the electronics would be fried if something real like this had been exposed to this much, for this long. So I say it ain't happening. lol. |

I think you need a few discarded Stormtroopers and AT-AT driver helmets tossed around it. Sorta like there was a serious mechanical problem with their vehicle and they just abandoned it. |

I've got one helmet at least. I'll see if I can dig some more up. Good idea. |

I saw a bunch of these on Endor when I was there on vacation. Seriously I love it. once upon a time I had a Star Wars junk yard composed of old beat up ships I'd picked up. They started looking a lot like this before I moved. |
