Hi everybody, I'm getting back into customizing after a 10 year of so break. I used to post back when JoeCustoms.com was the Bivouac, if anyone here remembers those days.

Anyway, I made a couple of vehicle customs for funsake. My brother and I always wanted a Cobra transport chopper like the one in the Marvel comic, and Chap Mei finally provided the raw materials to do so. The other is a World Peacekeepers F-18 that I turned in to a Cobra jet.

Both were spray painted using Valspar brand paint, stickers applied from CobraStickers.com, paint washes, splatters and drybrushed textures added then clear coated with satin finish.

Thanks for looking!

Wow NICE!
Maybe if you have some clear plastic windows from the F-18 box etc you can use it for the chopper's windows.

That's a great idea, I wish I had thought of it before I threw away the boxes, haha. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! Yes, the container is removable. It's really a great mold, the original colors were actually kind of Tiger Force:

Very nice! I love them and have been wanting to do a CAT (I think that's what they were called after the Springfield evac) helicopter for years. Too bad I can't find any to customize. :(

Having been in the military and a modeling enthusiast, I'm admittedly a perfectionist, so there are a few things I'd change, but only because I'm OCD like that.

The weathering looks awesome, but I would probably go a little bit easier on the jet. Aircraft are pretty maintenance intensive, and even as cheap as Cobra is, I can't see them leaving that much aluminum exposed to corrosion (and presumably salty air and sea spray since it's got folding wings). As I've learned in modeling, when it comes to weathering and battle damage, less is usually more. I would probably just dab a little silver around panels you think are often removed and add a few streaks here and there on leading edges. Also, it's pretty common for military aircraft to have a panel or two that's a couple shades lighter or darker where it's been repainted/replaced. That would be a nice touch on either of these.

I would have painted the engine nozzles black and/or gunmetal. That's what color they are on pretty much every jet. This is personal preference, but I think I would have painted the missiles and fuel tanks more like the real ones, just to make them stand out from the jet. Since you used the Rattler Z06 designation, it's kinda of neat to think about a Cobra unit getting the Taipan as a replacement for its aging Rattle fleet. BTW, I love the Taipan name.

I realize the helicopter's just a toy, but the wrong end of the rotor blades is weathered. They're like airplane wings: thick side is leading, thin is trailing. Also, as weathered as it is, it's pretty obvious that Cobra doesn't worry about its appearance, so I would lightly add some soot from the turbine exhaust. If you really want to add a windscreen, there are ways that you can mold plastic or plexiglass to fit the openings.

It's hard to see in the Krait, but I really think you should detail both cockpits. There's so much potential there. The other thing I think would be neat to see on both aircraft is navigation lights. At least the red and green ones.

I hope you don't mind my lengthy critique. I think you did a great job, I just think these two have so much more potential.

Definitely reminds me of the chopper from the Marvel comics when Serpentor lead the escape from Springfield to Cobra Island.

Outstanding work on both of these. you would never know what that chopper was originally.

I appreciate the great crit, this is my first foray into more "realistic" customizing, so that is some great info. Thanks for sharing!

Check out Jin Saotome's site, he has some painting tutorials that cover the techniques I used:
