Post subject:  My EXCAL take on Lara Croft- UPDATE P.2

Ok, for background, I've always wanted to make this figure. I played and enjoyed the first games, years ago, and she is well suited to fit in on the adventure side of my verse. But I never had great motivation to make her because I didn't have parts that motivated me. I'd save pics of some of the cool customs I'd see for future reference, but still never really lit a fire.

Last year I got more motivated when Chief posted his take on the character. It's still one of my favorite figures he has made, and he seems to enjoy rubbing my face in how awesome she is (and that I don't have her). lol. Well, I had been working to remedy that with a fairly classic looking take on the character. Then AV came to play, and brought his A game.

So AV pretty much owned the classic look. I'm not a guy who needs to be original with every figure, but it seemed silly to post something so close in style if I didn't think I could top him! lol So I decided to scrap the scheme I had going, take the parts I liked best from my first WIP, and make a different style version of the character. I think it was for the best. In part, because the head I've been setting aside for Lara is one that looks better on the new body. I used a MU X-23 base figure, and I'm not sure she'd work so well on a different torso.

Because X-23 is wonky, Lara here remains a bit wonky too. I did shorten her up a touch, by swapping in Ms. Marvel lower legs. But if the critique is that her legs are too long, I accept that, but have come to terms with it. lol.

Here is the look I decided to target:

And here is what I came up with:

looks good! my only critique would be the shoulder harness ... it's too loose -- you might have had a better representation sculpting this, or gluing straps on?

still - great work -- what head is that?

I'd like to see the head raised a touch. Otherwise lookin g-oo-d.

Two thumbs up. She looks good. I've yet to see the new female buck, first hand.

I suppose I could glue straps down. It's actually not as loose as the pics look. I reduced the cross straps to fit the torso even before these pics, and it actually doesn't move even in the slightest, it's that tight.

But I think the issue might be its bulk, or at least the width of the straps. So I'll think on this a little, for a solution. I actually think the size of the straps is affecting how the height of the head looks too.

Very nice execution. The head is perfect. I agree the straps look a little loose, but not a big deal.

Her waist/mid-torso looks really skinny. I know this is because of the bulky shoulder harness and guns on her hips but it does throw off her proportions in my opinion. Sculpted straps on the upper torso might help this as they'd really hug the body and you could make them thinner. Or you could use a thinner harness like the one that comes on the Super Soldier Steve Rogers figure.

wonky proportions are largely the buck she started as. I kind of view her a bit as cartoonish, and am ok with that. But I will look into the straps a bit more. That x-23 figure is promising and disappointing all at once.

Oh, and I meant to show this one earlier too, a classic pose:

lol

EDIT: And here she is without any harness. I'm not sure how she'd look if the harness were too small.

I like it. I agree about the harness. Once you put something together it will be better for it.

Looks better without the harness.

great work (as usual). have to ask where did you get those boots.

I know that it lacks the front cross strap, but Commander Rogers' harness is much thinner. Perhaps you could work with that on her?
