What were you looking to accomplish? I use three grades of commerical styrofoam for various techniques. Hard Microcell (Dyalite), Packing grade(soft large cell), and green microcell(the better grade of floral foam).

For urban uses, it can be cut and sealed (blowing a heat gun or embosser lightly on the surface(or use a hair dryer) to change the surface into everything from stone patterns, brick patters, or industrial rusted metal look. I texture the outside of Dyalite to make everything from trees to cast iron works. You can score the surface of the foam in any pattern and the recesses will capture paint well. Dry brushing brings out all the surface details too.

You can make solid urban walls with surface cracks in them just heating a pin and dragging it on the surface of packing grade styrofoam. They did this in immense scale during the Lord of the Rings movies when they were making those fallen statue heads that littered the forests. Immense blocks of styrofoam and hot wire cut the cracks.

I couldnt explain it better than what mandingo rex did here http://forums.fighting118th.com/showthread.php?t=153 He will show you brands, layouts, carving techniques. the whole deal. Almost all my walls are done in this style. I just use different materials sometimes. He has pics for everything in that tutorial as well as other links with video descriptions.

In my opinion its the best dio tutorial out there.

I was just curious mainly because I have two big sheets of "regular" white thick styrofoam, and was curious what to do with it. I've seen that link before, and I always learn something new when I reread it.

Not much help to offer, but I do know when my Folks make their xmass village they use a special electric Styrofoam cutter it looks like a copping saw but uses a wire, that heats the styrofoam so there is less mess!
