Post subject: | JoeRoom Shelves Diorama Displays ... Update 2012.05.06 |
so, I've been meaning to do stuff for a long time. Today, to stop myself from procrastinating, I set my phone to alarm me every hour. Then I switched tasks. During my JoeRoom task time today, I started on the Ninja Battles Dio Display. Attachment: Attachment: Yet to do: 1. Make rock display(s) for the sides 2. Hang an Arishikage banner on some poles in front of the Skyrim logo 3. Fill with Ninjas Any thoughts or suggestions? |

Well I had a similar idea that would have worked if Spectre had more of those floor sections. You know how all those Jedi Senior Council sections went together to form the meeting area? I was gonna get enough of them to arrange them like a wheel with the small ends on the inside, like pie pieces, with a main sparring area in the middle. I was gonna leave room between each section for a narrow rock gravel walkway. You don't have enough room for that, but I like where you are going with this. The background works too. |

DJ, YOu could always do a half circle to start and expand as you find more bases...LOL |

Keeping with the theme of the marvelous backdrop, you could cover the Skyrim graphics the same way you could the sides, if you could get some of that LeMax mountain terrain foam pieces. Just cut them up to fit the sides, and take one and shear the top of the mountain and turn that upside down for stalactites to cover the graphic. That way it looks like a Ninja shrine located in a mountain top cave, overlooking the expanse of that frozen terrain below. You could also sponge either some white, brown, or both paint on that even flocking to break up the "lawn" look of it. You can usually get them (the foam terrain pieces) on sale as they often are half off during the non-holiday season. If you'd prefer to cut your own, then either some blue insulation foam or even throwaway packing foam will do, just break it up with either a rasp, or as I do, with a craft woodburner. If the cave idea isn't what you're after, you can get some of those cone shaped green foam craft pieces from a WalMart and score the surface to get a large bark tree pattern. Enough of those would kind of put some aged trees along the sides. You could hot glue lichen over the Skyrim graphics and most of the ceiling, to make it a heavily forested area under a tree canopy. A torii denotes a locale that is somewhat sacred, so if a battle is taking place, I wouldn't make it look like a dojo or some kumite type of place. I would opt for a more ancient sacred feel. That way the ninja are trying to reclaim a sacred site. Just my two yen... |

I believe you could add some minitaure statues to the sides. |

Some stone lanterns, a pond and some well groomed trees. Straw dummies for sword and shuriken throwing practice. Targets filled with arrows. A rack with some bokken from the apprentice comic set. |

Pink insulating foam. I'm using a combo of 1.5"-ish & 1/2" sizes. I found some foam-tack glue on amazon, and then used a 'hot knife' to melt in the texture. I thought I had enough ventilation while melting this stuff, but I can still smell it in my nostrils today .... I then primed it with some gray acrylic spray paint, but apparently forgot to take a picture of that ... |
