Attachment: Kart: Playmobil Steering wheel: Snow Cat '85 Banana: piece of straw An pretty obvious choice for this NJC. Mario's head took me quite some time modifying. Had to cut the hat from Bison, cut the head from Clean-Sweep and make them both fit together. Used some Greenstuff to make this work, also enlarged the hat with Greenstuff and made a bigger moustache. The Corps torso was just perfect. I just had to make a kart too, because I believe Super Mario Kart is one of the best SNES games out there. That game got a LOT of playtime in our house. I cut and dremeled some stuff off of the kart, because Playmobil figures are a bit smaller than Joes. Other than that the scale looked very good to me. Replaced the steering wheel for the one from Snow Cat. I came up with the banana idea on the very last moment. Cut and painted a piece of straw for that. (strange sidenote: when making this custom I found out Mario's hair is always brown, but his moustache and eyebrows are always black...... ) |

Attachment: Attachment: I decided to pick an enemy for this NJC that's well known in the Super Mario universe. Bullet Bill appeared in the majority of Mario games and can be seen in some different looks. I chose the classic look to make since that's how I encountered him the most when playing Super Mario. I had to find some tube for the body and a conical shape for the nose. For the nose I started looking in my rocket bin, but all of those were too small. The only one that would work was the top of the Rolling Thunder missile. Didn't have a spare one, so I used one from my childhood/display RT. I used a General mortar for the body at first, but the Thunderclap cannon needed less modifications. The hardest part was painting the eyes. Both customs together: Attachment:

Yea that Bullet Bill is fantastic. Was going to vote that way till I saw Mario with the Kart and banana. It was the total package there that won me over. Outstanding work. |

Love the RAH Mario. Thought the kart might have even from the Toy Biz Mario Kart line. Bullet Bill is a lot more complex of a build then I thought. Turned out great. |

You guys make me Attachment: Shy.jpg [ 50.58 KiB | Viewed 627 times ] Seriously, I appreciate all your comments! I'm flattered you like both customs. I wasn't so sure about them, because they look pretty "simple": lots of the same colours without much detail. iwbeta wrote: Love the RAH Mario. I didn't even know about the Toy Biz line, but it would've cost me more effort to get one of those over here. The Playmobil kart was easily found and bought on a Dutch site similar to Craigslist. Besides painting the eyes, a lot of work also went into the arms. I had to make them fit into the hole and drilled a tiny hole in them. That's where the toothpick was attached. Now the arms can move in every direction, just like a normal ARAH figure. Not that it's usefull, the way the arms are positioned as in the pics is the most recognizable position on Bullet Bill. |
