A long time ago, a fellow joe fan with a rather spectacular VAMP collection asked me to make custom Clutch's for each variation that he had. We had them narrowed down to SAS, Funskool MRF, Tiger Force, Funskool Super Cop, Street Fighter Street Striker. Also had a brown Clutch to go with the VAMP 2, since the tan Clutch works better for the tan mail-in VAMP.

Well, life got in the way, and I'm terrible at commission turn around times, and almost three years later, here are two customs :-)

First is SAS Clutch

Next is Funskool MRF Clutch. I did alternate heads based on the Funskool Clutch I found on yojoe.com

Those are real sharp, especially once you consider how tough some of those colors can be to do. Nicely done!

All you guys who do figures always impress me. I love my vehicles, spray paint, and masking tape. All that intricate painting takes a lot of skill and patience that's for sure.

Thanks. Most of the tough colors are spray paint. The torso was painted yellow first, then black, then gray. Helped a bunch. The red was also sprayed, then painted over with white.

Well, you are half way there :-). Like I said above, use a lot of spray paint and masking tape. Of course for the finer details I have to use a brush.

Wow... These look great... Simple but Clean.

I don't know that he needs it, but I feel like MRF Clutch should have something printed on his Thighs. I think it's the color combo and Lifeline connection that makes me think it...but it's an application that I could expect Funskool would have done.

I like the Racing Clutch a lot. I'd prefer the shaven version it just feels right. I agree with nova some of the funskool mrf decals would look great on him and fit his racing attire perfectly.

Love the MRF Clutch, both versions. In part because Steeler was my favorite figure as a kid, and I'm totally looking at this as a tandem team (as though it were two figures wearing same uni) of Steeler and Clutch together. Definitely dig it.

Has anyone ever actually 'shaved' any of the bearded first year figures? I'm curious as to how that would look now.

Looking forward to the Supercop version...

These are really cool. Nice paint apps and execution.

I have ideas for some of my 82/83 WIPs, so I will be book marking this thread.

Not that I know of. I'd like to see that. Super Cop may be less than spectacular, since I'm basing it off of the MRF, since I think there would be shared paint masks. That being said, I do have an idea for an alternate head :-)

Agreed. I actually saw this custom on ebay years ago. I like the lettering, but wasn't sure if it was something Funskool would have painted on, or just had a really cheap sticker come with it.

Awesome. Whenever I see a simple, functional and brightly colored piece like the MRF guy, i think "Nova should cast that and make them".
