I was never a fan of the original Sky Patrol. I really liked each individual character, but they never felt like a cohesive team. They also never looked like the covert, behind enemy lines recon team they were intended to be. Inspired by the movie Executive decision starring Kurt Russell and Steven Seagal; I decided to switch things up, and put together a Sky Patrol team that specializes in missions that actually take place in the sky. Similar to the original team, I wanted to use original characters with one exception: Airborne. Unlike the original team, however, I wanted them to have a color scheme that would tie them together, and make them look like an actual team. Each member is armed with a sub-machine gun, and equipped with parachute pack. The team consists of Chatterbox, Merlin, Airborne, Trauma, and Harrier. Harrier - Assault Trooper Harrier is an Airborne Ranger and adrenaline junkie. When he's not infiltrating a hijacked 747 30,000 feet in the air he enjoys base jumping and parasailing. He has extensive training in hand to hand combat and close quarters battle. He's also a qualified parachute rigger. Airborne - Sky Patrol Leader Airborne is one of my favorite characters, and this is my third custom of him. In homage to the previous Sky Patrol team, I outfitted Airborne in the same uniform as Skydive, the original teams leader. Chatterbox - Communications Chatterbox, the teams communications expert, actually doesn't talk much...only when he needs to. He's a verifiable electronics genius with additional training in close quarters battle. Merlin - EOD Merlin got his name due to his ability to both defuse and build explosive devices. It's been claimed that seeing him work is magical. He has a cool head under preasure and never seems to panic or show any sort of excitement. Trauma - Medic Britsh born Trauma has served as medic and rescue trooper for various military units all over the world, including the SAS and Britain's Action Force. He has a warm, calming demeanor and charming personality. He lives and breathes to help others; when he is not in the field he can be found working alongside Doc in the Joe's Infirmary or other military hospitals.

Group shot sells it. Wonderful team, and really impressive paint work. Always nice to see something new in ARAH format, too! |

And now you take on my favorite of the sub-teams! I loved the Sky Patrol figures as a kid (although I only had Skydive, Airborne, and Static-Line), and it's great to see the concept revisited. I like the idea of them being specialists in resolving hijackings and such; it makes a lot more sense as a team concept, and it's a cool specialty to have. Chatterbox and Airborne are my favorites of the bunch. The parts choices on Chatterbox are very unique, and the figure has a really cool look to him: he'd look right at home next to a bunch of '88-'90-era Joes. The Skydive/Gyro-Viper mold is one of my favorites in the line, so I'm always in favor of using it in its entirety (the parts are so much more detailed than most others that they don't really mesh well with anything else). The only thing I'm not sold on with that figure is the helmet: the rest of the figure has such a uniform, cutting-edge look to it while the helmet is kind of a throw-back. I don't know what else would be a good substitute (although the original Airborne helmet is pretty well-sculpted). I also really like Trauma: something about that color scheme and combination of parts really sells him. I would have loved to have these figures as a kid. |

These look great, and I agree, the original Sky Patrol wasn't very cohesive. Mainly Skydive and Static Line's blue color. I replaced them with Free Fall and Ripcord and they look better together. Not quite sold on there being all new members to the team, but I do like what you've done here. |

Two reasons I created new characters for the team: The Sky Patrol figures I do have are all still used, but in different functions. A few have been made into pilots, etc...And I did not have spare Sky Patrol heads to use. Your description of 'Executive Decision' is exactly how I use the Spy Patrol. A reserve team of troops that can handle any situation, self contained and highly mobile. Great customs. |

ya know, I've never thought of using Sky Patrol as anything but a few more paratroopers tp hang out with Crazylegs and Freefall (and technically H.A.L.O Jumper Ripcord). The only thing notable about any of Hasbro's SKY characters is Altitude's rank: He's Sergeant Major Of The Army, the highest ranked NCO the US Army has. The rest of them are forgettable. But this concept you've come up with to make Sky Patrol truly special and give them a purpose is awesome and way out of the box! Fantastic customs, I dig them all. |

Very nice! Expanding the Sky Patrol is something I wanted to do for quite some time now too. I like Chatterbox and Merlin best. Chatterbox for the use of Scoop's arm, like he's wearing an altitude meter on his wrist. Merlin for his head, that's a sweet modification of Lifeline's helmet. I do think Harrier and Trauma need helmets to make them fit the group better. |
