These have been done for a while, I finally found a few minutes to take some pics. Nothing earth-shattering here, just some repaints that Hasbro should have done a loooong time ago. I still need to order some stickers from J Ruben and find a replacement console for the HAL, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Enjoy! OB |

Dang, those look nice & clean. Can't even tell that they're repaints. What type of paint did you use? |

Thanks guys. the paint is Krylon fusion khaki and oxford blue respectively, both satin finish. I found them at a super Walmart in upper NY state, so I imagine they are generally available in the US. These battlestations were part of a much larger project that I was going to call Project Retro. It was going to be a series of customs that attempted to recapture the feel of the 1982-1983 ARAH line. I repainted a bunch of early vehicles and playsets as well as updated most of my 25th Anniversary Original 13 Joes (and some others) to fill an entire shelf on my display. All these customs have been done for a while, but real life got crazy and the project got put aside and I never photographed it. As I shoot them, I'll post the pics. OB |

That Cobra FLAK is awesome. I was going to say that if you detailed the missiles on the MMS it would really set it off, but since you were trying to capture the feel of 82-83, they are perfect. |

These look really good. I've wanted to do a few of these vehicles to go with my Tan OG13 figures... I'd planned to use brown and grey...like Hasbro did for the Vamp Mk2, but these look really good in that realistic khaki. the Hal and FLAK look great in cobra blue...stickers really finish off a custom vehicle. |

Looking at these repaints makes me feel like I'm 9 years old again seeing GI Joe toys in person for the first time. When I say this, I'm not exaggerating or trying to give a lofty compliment. I really get a sense of awe from these repaints, and it may be because as someone who doesn't customize vehicles as much it's harder my brain to wrap around that these aren't "real" Hasbro toys, but rather ones that have been painstakingly reworked. But mostly because it's truly beautiful work. Sometimes I wonder about it the toys that we customize count as being legitimate art or not. Work like this makes me know that it does. |
