First is a tweak to my Joker figure. Trying to add some depth and grittiness to his look. Was too clean and unrealistic on the first head, though that one works fine for the joker I made for my son.

Next is one I have debated for some time now: an updated base head for my Knighthawk and Ajax characters. Both are at least partially self customs at heart, and both have used the custom head sculpt made of me by Trigate. But while that sculpt nailed many of my features, I started to feel it was a bit outdated. At least as compared to the great sculpts which have come along since that time.

I think this update actually looks a touch like me still, perhaps a more stylized version at least. I've got him mostly painted but haven't yet started the eyes. I will show the main improvement from one to the other when I take more pics.

I am the yin to Will's yang- I love that joker head. Creepy- just as the Joker should be.

I have to ask since I know you're a fan, too...was the Joker's head supposed to resemble Dress to Kill era Eddie Izzard? Because that's the vibe I'm getting, and I could see him being a pretty awesome Mr. J.

Ok, so this wasn't the intent at all, but thank you for confirming I am not crazy. I did the eyes just the other night, and as I was looking at the pic, that EXACT thought popped into my mind: "Holy "LASER BLAST", I just made an Eddie Izzard Joker...that's...that's...AWESOME"

Seriously. Funny as hell you just said that.

Again, not intentional, but I'll take it. I really wanted a sinister look.

Oh, and the other resemblance I thought I saw as I was painting him? Killface from Frisky Dingo. Get a different paint job on there, and maybe. Or maybe, actually Killface's kid? lol

I'm really loving your Batman customs. I love the gritty realistic look and not over the top super hero look. Almost like if Nolan made the movies without the armored suit and more of a traditional suit. I was piecing together some spare parts I had and I think I came up with a cool Batman, just need to find the right head, though I might try to convert a Captain Britain head I got in a baggie from IronwIll(he has a smug, mean look).

How did you do the bat symbol? I'm sure you've explained it before, I think you had a thread with all the Batmen in it, but I can't find it.

SPM - thank you.

It seems like every time I do a symbol I do it differently. But for this one, it is cut out of black vinyl (i.e. electrical tape with the adhesive removed). I wanted something actually raised above the suit, not just paint, a decal, or even glued on paper.

To get it semi-precise, I printed the logo I wanted, glued that paper on the the vinyl and used it as a pattern. Remove the paper and presto ;)

What head did you use for the new Knighthawk? It is perfect for a project I've had in mind.

The Joker is col. I saw Hammill too. Not the take I would have gone but gritty isn't my thing either.

Yeah, I have kind of outgrown the idea of the Joker as a dandy. It's the Joker I grew up with, and in some ways is actually more sinister that way. But I wanted one that fit the basic criteria while being a bit more of a monster.

The new KH (And Ajax! ;) ) head is...

I didn't go into the project thinking I'd be able to change the look quite so much. In fact, I almost didn't even try. But I'm pleased beyond expectations with the results thus far.

In addition to the obvious paint, I trimmed then sanded down the Spock-brows, carved the goatee with a hot exacto, sized the head to fit via dremel, and carved the jaw line for better definition.

Side by side, it's actually striking - though of course I wasn't smart enough to take THAT pic before I started modding head #2

new KH head looks really good. I thought it was a Professor X head.
I wish I could find some Professor x figures....

Post subject:  Re: More WIPs and fixes

thanks Tim. I'm getting pretty excited about the update myself.

Here is another WIP - actually more of an update to a project I've teased before. I decided awhile ago to stop bringing in every character from any era into my contemporary EXCAL verse. Some still may, but I also wanted to add some depth and history to that world. Thus, I've started mapping out an EXCAL prequel, which will touch on the secret society from whence it came, and key players throughout various periods.

Those key characters will be - just as with the main verse - anybody I think is cool, whether a literary figure from that era, a real person, a character of my own creation, or even modern created characters who are placed into any particular area of time.

The period most on my mind at the moment is the Victorian Era. These fellows should end up playing a key part of that side project.

Certainly I was tempted to make the contemporary versions from the BBC show. But these parts just screamed out to be used this way, as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, where's the deerstalker from?

EDIT: Ha, figured it out, well played!

yeah, both hats are LEGO. ;)

The Bowler fits like a charm once you dremel out the locking bit inside. Sherlock's cap doesn't fit as well as I'd hoped, but well enough to do the trick I think. Will hopefully look even better once painted to look less plastic-y.
