I have always been a fan of that great Sega Genesis game Shadowdancer, and every time I saw the Ninja Force Storm Shadow I couldn't help but think that outfit looked fairly close to that great Shinobi chapter of the Genesis game. My mother-in-law overheard me telling the Mrs. about the outfit and the old game of decades ago, and in her usual sneaky way she produced the figure when we got back to the car.

When I got home, I liked the figure but felt that to make it more my Shadowdancer, I would need a little LBC tweaking. So I swapped out his feet for the more proportionate feet from the 25th Storm Shadow, and removed his fully covered head for the ROC one. Taking the Dr. Rex's face/neck cowl from the same run, I trimmed off the medical facets and smoothed it out. Then trimmed it so that it could fit with the supplied hood. Best part of it, it is all removable so that he can be this way, or with his unmasked self. All I had to do for his weapon was trim the guard a little with a nail clipper then paint the blade silver. I have a Safari white wolf that looks great for Shadowdancer, but this recipe also would work for an updated Storm Shadow too.

Can we get a pic of the modded pieces? I'm intensely curious to see the changes to the Rex mask you made.

I'll get pix. The only thing modded was the Dr. Rex neck piece. It couldn't have been simpler. I just trimmed off the front silver part close to the rest of the face part. Then I lightly rasped it to get it all flush and uniform.

Next, I just took his head and shoved it into that neck cover until it sat exactly where I wanted it, covering the nose and mouth but leaving his eyes exposed. Then with a sharp pair of craft scissors, I trimmed the bottom of it to be close/flush with the bottom of that Storm Shadow head. It is a snug fit, so when I put it on his head I had given it a few second dip in boiling water and it slid on nicely.

The rest was just adding the hood which came with this Dollar General figure. Since I have other Dr. Rex neck pieces, I am going to use this for other slightly masked figures.

I don't know the game, but if this DG figure was an homage to that look, it makes more sense to me (as I'm not a big fan of the outfit they gave him in and of itself. That said, I love the work you've done here. The head rocks.

Also - in looking up the source info for the pics, it struck me that for as awesome as gaming is today, I kind of miss the simplicity of the Sega Genesis era of games. They didn't have the depth and immersion of today, but they were pretty damn fun
