The Flukeman originated on a decommissioned Russian freighter that was used in the disposal of salvage material from the nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl. The creature was thus born in a primordial soup of radioactive sewage. After a series of killings, aboard the ship and in New Jersey once the creature had been flushed out to sea, FBI agents Mulder and Scullywere assigned to the case. Agent Mulder eventually tracked it to a sewage drainpipe leading back out to the Atlantic, but managed to finally close a rusty gate, severing the being in half. The Flukeman wailed a long, high-pitched scream and the lower portion of its body, including its legs, was left floating in the slightly bloodied sewage water inside the vault. At night soon thereafter, the top section of the Flukeman's body awakened while floating in the sewage of Newark.
Later reports had the creature washing ashore, its legs regrown, near Martha’s Vineyard, whereupon the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development was brought in to ascertain the creature’s true nature and danger. Due to the creature’s ability to take on the genetics of others around it; assumed to be a latent mutant power of whichever Russian sailor donated the creature’s original portion of Human DNA, continual and reinforced contact with the humans and non-human sentients in the BPRD have allowed it to mentally develop well beyond its original animal psychology. Once it began to speak, it was given the name of ‘Frank’ by Hellboy. While still a junior member with much to prove towards its effectiveness in the field and trustworthiness, there have been no major incidents to tarnish Agent ‘Franke’ Fluke’s work with the BPRD.
