Managed to find a Comic Pack Crossbones on ebay and decided that fit Gung-Ho better. That left me with the black-clad Crossbones body. The only spare head I had on hand, that fit this icebox of a body, was the original MU Punisher's head. I ended up reading Backstop's original filecard during the same timeframe, and I thought "you know, that filecard paints a much different picture from what the figure suggests about the character"... As a kid he was a hockey player so rough his parents had to move to the States to avoid angry parents. In high school he was a wrestling champion because no one dared step on the mat with him. In the army, a Golden Gloves champ. This dude is a big mean badass. This Crossbones body and Punisher head reflect that. And I had this extra helmet in strange colors from Raginspoon, that if I cut out the visor and part of the "face" of that helmet, could work as a modernized take on Backstop's helmet. So here we are. I'm not sure where to go from there, though. Thinking about keeping the helmet this base color and just adding painted details to it, because I have to stretch it to fit the head, and painting the kneepads to match the helmet. And maybe add a tattoo of the Montreal Canadiens logo on one of his exposed forearms, given his hockey and Montrealer background. Thoughts so far? I keep being plagued with second thoughts with this project.... (I think the biggest challenge will be finding a tank he can actually fit in, ultimately) |

Coming along really well. I always liked the backstop character and the mold used for the vintage figure was great but the paint scheme they used back then didn't do him justice. Your version is looking really good |

Well, this project died a tragic death. The size of the head forced the chin-piece too much, and it snapped during the night. The helmet being so great was basically the driving force behind this project, without it, it's just a Punisher with a flak vest and an icebox frame... Your support was greatly appreciated, though, Zeph! |

I'd pull the vest off, glue the helmet, and move the project to a joe body. Don't give up yet! |

I agree. Try to fix the helmet however possible. You might have to switch to a smaller head or sand down the one you have but it is off to such a great start. |

The helmet isn't much use anymore, I'm afraid. Tore off the chin piece in frustration this morning when I found out. That being said, making a modern, bulky Backstop isn't dead yet... but this body/head combo's use for it is. Bought a Reactive Armor Heavy Duty figure off ebay during lunch, which shall become the new base for Backstop. When I find a head I feel works for my new interpretation of the character, I'll be picking up another Raginspoon helmet as well. That helmet just works too well. As for this Crossbones body/Punisher head combo... Who knows. I still like how they work together so maybe someday the right character to make out of them will hit me out of the blue. Thanks for the support, everyone! |
