Hasbro's clearly got a thing for "Ultimate" figures lately. Seeing the Stormshadow, Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander from the most recent wave got me all melancholy thinking about the other classic figures who will never get their full due in the modern era.

And that's what led me to tackle the Joes' first and - imho - foremost machine gunner.

Ever since reading Rock-n-Roll's filecard with the weight lifter reference back in the day, I've imagined him as a bigger guy. The 25th figure we got of him seemed small to me at the time and its downright puny compared to the more recent Retaliation line. So my main mission here was to beef him up.

I also wanted some consistency in scale and generl appearance between him and the other ME representations of O-13 Joes I've done (I guess they're my other "Ultimates" so far). For comparison's sake, here he is with Short Fuze, Steeler and Grunt:

And here's a shot of him in an approximation of his classic filecard art pose:

So what do you guys think?

Head seems just a tad small, but other than that well done!! I think there is a Star Wars head that would work really well for this. I used it for a Green Arrow. I'll find the name.

I'd happily buy it.

I am a giant fan of the 82 characters. And while I think 89 R&R needs a new figure more than 82 needs redone, this one is great. And adding a bit more variety to the lineup of modern O13 figures is a good idea. If you update 1 character so that the O13 team as a whole has fewer shared parts, they all suddenly get better.

SW head was from Joker Squad Sgt Harkas. Would just need minor paint and sculpt adjustments. Just a thought.

Not sure the 25th head is the right one for that body. If it was scaled up about 10% like the ROC Wild Bill head then it would be a better fit but as is it does look a bit small. I'd suggest perhaps using a Star Wars Ep3 Obi-wan head if you can find one. It is bigger and will look good on that body and still fit in the style of the other figures you have there.

But neck down it's a solid figure. I love that you used the 25th Clutch boots on this figure which look a lot better than the Retaliation Roadblock boots. I have my own figure started using the Ret Roadblock body and I'm definitely stealing the Clutch boots idea for mine.

I like it. Needs a tweak in the noggin department but I see where you are going with it and I approve.

Add me to the "head is too small" camp. I like what you're going for, but that head was too small for the body it came with much less for an even bigger body.
