So this was last weekend's post-Thanksgiving play date with my 6 year old.

He's been loving the arctic AT 8-wheeler I made, so he swipes it often. It also prompted him to ask for winter coat versions of his favorite team figures.

So with that in mind, and making use of some holiday decorations I had recently picked up, I set up the following (campy? yes) mission: AT HQ needs a Christmas tree, and the Commander wants the best tree they've ever seen. One that can only be found on....

NINJA MOUNTAIN!!!

The team was instructed to bring a chain saw, and was advised that wintery conditions made visibility difficult, and they'd be best served by bringing close quarters combat weapons, should their mission to obtain the tree quietly be thwarted by the ninjas.

This is the set up I made for him. Quick and dirty, but I think I got it to convey the feel and vibe I wanted him to get from it.

I didn't take move-by-move pics this time. There was much less drama also. Rather than sneak in, like the team did at Serpent Island, this time the boy chose full-frontal assault. You know, like what works so well on Ninjas. (Being in the holiday spirit, I didn't penalize his strategy or his rolls as much as I might have. This - combined with some highly improbable-Vegas-win-streak-inducing rolls, led to the type of RPG onslaught rarely seen outside of a Raptor sponsored online game attack led by Commander Lance Sputnik...) :monocle:

you can see in this pic the team also had to contend with a pack of wolves guarding the gate to the upper level. Unseen was a snow leopard which Scarlett captured and the team's dog guarded (who has since been trained and is an active member of the team now).

Midway through the mission, my son once again resorted (apparently) to his Spongebob book of military tactics, by attempting to storm the ninja temple carrying a barrel of fuel (not to ignite mind you, but to bowl the ninjas over Donkey-Kong style.) He also tried this ill-fate "stealth" attack:

Anyway, it was a good time, and the team got their tree. Just thought I'd share ;)

I Love these updates so much. Though I do miss the turn by turn action. And the flipper slap.

Which tree did the team choose?

The one most closely guarded by all the ninjas (duh!)...they are a reckless bunch after all.

:-P

I hope you decorate it with the heads of the fallen enemies. :D

Looking forward to my son being old enough for this sort of thing. I wonder if your son knows how lucky he is to have a customizer for a father.

It's definitely fun. I commented before that despite my hobby, I don't necessarily have fun "playing" in the traditional move figure around and talk sense. I mean, I do it to spend time with my son, but that kind of play is a chore sometimes, so I don't do it as much as he would like.

But I have both my boys every weekend, while my wife pulls two long shifts at work. That also means I can't really get immersed in play time while also trying to keep his brother from riding a rocking horse down the stairs. So when the little one is down for his long nap, I try to do something "special" to make up for the number of times I can't or don't do the normal play time.

These dio+RPG events are MUCH more engaging for me, and I would wager that as my son gets older, I will enjoy them even more than he does. I also plan to start making his sets more detailed as well, as he gets old enough to care for them better.

Having said all of that, I know he appreciates that his dad is a customizer (not old enough to be embarassed by it yet anyway), but he clearly doesn't recognize just how good he has it. lol. He probably thinks all of his friends have the equvalent of Santa's workshop going on in their basements.

Here is a teaser for the mission we started yesterday. Since I moved it to a table in the basement, I made it a larger mission, and we plan to play it all week. I'm taking more pics, so I will update the game results when able. For now, here is this:

you'll have to see how the mission plays out to answer THAT question... Hard to have any surprises in a game where the whole board is out in the open... well, mostly so anyway

I looked at this last night and kept looking for the Mountain Dew without finding it.

Just took another look and realized my tired eyes had read the update wrong last night. :D

It looks like you are having fun with this.
