I recently had the good fortune of picking up some MU fodder at a good price. As I was looking through it for some specific fodder for a secret project, I realized that Apocalypse was an awesome 'Bane' - type base figure. Unfortunately, there's no Bane head in 1:18 that looks decent on this figure. I decided to go with an Unmasked look (using some fodder from Iron Will's contest) until I can find a head that makes me happy. I named him "Bruise" because I couldn't come up with anything else. (Blues?) - I already have a Bruise in my collection, thanks to Lance Sputnik's name suggestion, but this guy says Bruise to me more clearly... Hulk, Apocalypse, razor saw, drill bit, dremel, paint: Attachment: IMG_1065.JPG [ 55.39 KiB | Viewed 1687 times ] Attachment: IMG_1063.JPG [ 52.06 KiB | Viewed 1687 times ] Attachment: IMG_1070.JPG [ 64.64 KiB | Viewed 1687 times ] Thoughts? |

I like it! The shadows in the 3rd pic make it look like he's wearing Mr. Freeze style goggles, and it looks kinda cool... wonder if you could give him some eye wear with blue lenses to make him look little less hulk like. |

It all looks great. Remind me of how you are doing this metallic blue effect on the paint. I am thinking of doing a Blue Laser custom and want that to be a part of it. |

Thanks, guys! DanOfTheDead wrote: I like it! Dusty79 wrote: It all looks great. Remind me of how you are doing this metallic blue effect on the paint. I am thinking of doing a Blue Laser custom and want that to be a part of it. the 'metallic' look you see here comes from the silver paint of the base figure being covered by Tamiya Transparent Blue. Attachment: photo.JPG [ 57.89 KiB | Viewed 1664 times ] I was turned on to those transparent paints by pluv. There are a couple tricks that I've come to use with those paints: 1. make sure to stir them (not shake) before each use, scraping up the pigment off the bottom of the jar -- they REALLY have a tendency to settle. 2. make sure you have some thinner -- I use Tamiya brand, just to be sure there's no 'rejection' by the paint. Even though this stuff is acrylic, it runs really thick and is really 'sticky' -- meaning, if you put it on too thick, and then go over it with a sticky brush, it will tear your first coat right off and leave an unsightly mess. It's truly much better to do a couple very thin coats than try to get one thick one. What I will do is dip my brush in thinner, then in the paint, then in the cap of the paint and then on the figure - each time. If you're looking to get a 'metallic' finish, the trick is to have a silver or chrome base coat. I've also done transparent red over gold to get this effect. |

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna make an attempt at that. |

These are great! Good tips about the thinner too. I use Tamiya almost exclusively, I'll have to try the thinner idea. By the way, can anyone get in on the Blue Laser customs? I think I can come up with something. OB |

That's a nice looking team you have there, for being blue and all. OB - speaking as a Red Laser, I think everyone making their own guys for each respective team is part of the fun. |

I'd paint his briefs area blue just so he doesn't look like he's walking around commando. Unless that's what you're going for in which case |

bruise 2 looks great, that head looks nice with the apocolypse body. Also the lense and the facial hair makes the hulk head look better too |
