6.19.14---Here's the backstory that's been in my head since I started.

The war started two years ago. The Joe team decided that enough was enough and that Cobra Commander and his legions must finally be put down. Full on assaults assisted by the United States military commenced on Cobra's forces. Casualties were high on both sides but Cobra was forced back to its last fortress based in the Smoky Mountains. A last ditch assault commenced with Cobra Commander threatening to fight until the bitter end. Little did he know that he was already betrayed from within-by a small group of his own scientists. Working on perfecting cloning technology and having their own plans for world domination, they had been developing a strand of doomsday airborne bacteria that killed and then reanimated the dead. They were close to finishing when the final assault began. Realizing that it was now or never they unleashed the killing cloud on both Cobra and Joe forces in the hopes that they would emerge with all resistance crushed. Their own small clone army was immune to the poisonous effects and they had developed a handful of war clones, named Rage, that were nigh invulnerable, giant killing machines. A few mercenaries, promised power and wealth once the world was theirs, signed on to their cause. It was then that tragedy struck their plans. The first Rage to be deployed was dropped via airship-due to a malfunction its control unit was destroyed, leaving it a beast of endless fury, killing and destroying all in its path. The poison cloud spread across the land and soon the American continents were overrun by hordes of undead. The rest of the world has had its own outbreaks and cannot spare the resources to help.

Two years later-the undead wander the cities and streets in huge numbers. Survivors struggle to gather meager resources inorder to live. A few small remnants of Cobra and GI Joe continue to battle each other as well as the scientists and their clone army. Occasional alliances are made amongst the survivors, Cobra and GI Joe but none last for long as tensions, egos and mistrust rot any truces from within.
