I saw these at TRU tonight.

Little Pet Shop has been doing some Blythe doll (big head big eye dolls that have been around since the 60s) stuff for awhile but they recently changed format to more static plastic figurines with the pet companion. They have playsets out now.
Some are a little cartoony but others and workable with a realistic paint job. They are be pretty close to joe-scale as well. The "style set" is a cool looking storefront building and there's another--(http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/littlest-p ... 5&ID=33566)-- that would be a pretty effective urban apartment building (the windows are very cartoony/Tim Burtony though).

TRU had a store display that showed them as stackable which is another cool feature.
