So, we had this dog that liked to play and get all excited. This was fine, except that when you finished playing, and had to do something else (like go to work,) the dog liked to go into your room and grab something of yours and then chew it to pieces. In my case, the dog went downstairs into my GI Joe room and picked up a $75 Club Exclusive Steel Brigade Zombie figure, off the deck of my FLAGG, surrounded by $3 keychain Joe Diver figures. Needless to say, I wasn't especially happy.

I figured I would buy one of those Steel Brigade/Iron Grenadier two-packs and see if I couldn't salvage the parts:

Then I took a look at that Iron Grenadier figure and realized that the color scheme was absolutely not something Destro would outfit his soldiers in. Plus it had that LOLhuge gun that I had to have explained to me was from the Colonial Marines game. I decided to make something with that figure. Using a head I got in a fodder lot from iwbeta that I thought was reminiscent of "Hellboy as Human" I tried to make a named character of it:

I like both. Especially how you turned destruction into a cool custom. I'm a dog lover so I probably would have done the same to clear the dog's name in my mind.

Yes, expensive chew toys are never easily gotten over, but sometimes you make the best with what you can, and that is what you've done. Nice recovery!

I agree 100% on the IG Gunner not being a Destro-esque figure. Your repaint and head sculpt change make him look much more the part. Great job on that one as well!

Dogs are cute but this highlights why I have no inclination towards ever owning one. I prefer my animals to be lazy a[mod edit]holes that don't care enough to chew on things. Great work salvaging that figure though.

That not-IG Gunner needs a name that evokes the sheer mount of whoop @$$ he's about to open.

Throwdown?
Steel Wall?
Puff Daddy? (Puff the Magic Dragon airplane)
Firestorm?
Shredder?
Jaws?
JAW-Viper?

Thanks for the kind comments, folks -

I had just thought about calling him 'Hellboy' ... but Iron Curtain really catches my fancy.

Will have to consult kilcarr on this...

Nice save! I would have never known these used to be a chew toy. Way to make something negative into an awesome positive!

Great work on rescuing that Zombie, but that Iron Grenadier- think Iron Curtain is a great name- is superb. That headscult is full of personality and your outstanding paints fully draw that out

thanks guys!

so, question on that LOLHuge gun ... is he holding it correctly? and if so, what's that hole in his pouch for? Is that where the ammo box is supposed to go so he can wear the other backpack that came in the package? (if so, it's too late -- I glued his rifle to the ammobox on his back)

nice work on both counts. Club figures are just polished customs anyway, so I'd take yours over theirs easy.

On the gun and the pouch, I know the first version of the steadicam gun included the actual bar that the gun rested on, and that plugged into the hole in the pouch. It may be that they changed the design for later releases?

this is the gun and gear I'm thinking of. So different system designed to go with that vest.

Update: based on a good suggestion, I went back to this custom and painted his goggles yellow ... more horn-y?
