Post subject:  The Rock

After finishing up the Crystar figure, I wanted to get The Rock figure finished. This was the tattoo experiment. Over all it worked pretty well, but the tattoo I used wasn't quite fit to the figure. Over all it probably needed to be reworked and refit, but I used it as is and hand drew the rest of the details in. It doesn't perfectly match Rock's tattoo, but it does work.

This is a honey wheat blank. I layered other colors over it to get what I feel is pretty accurate to the Rock's skin tone. I used a Roadblock movie head and sanded the goatee off. That was actually a slight raised sculpted feature so it had to get sanded off and reshape all around the mouth. The elbow and knee pads are from slicing in a black blank so the joints aren't needed to be painted. There's a small amount of milliput to add some details. The shoes are built up and sculpted with milliput too. I gave the body a slight gloss look with clear coat to create a sweat look, or baby oil as they like to oil up. This first shot is without a flash to give an accurate color detail.

With the flash, more details are visible but the colors are washed out. Still you get an idea of the tattoo.

He is poseable. The tattoos can chip, but they are pretty durable. I'm going to be playing with that idea for a while but over all the tattoos work great staying away from the joints. Getting close to the joints, they still work, just not as something you'd want to pose over and over.

I had parts left over from the movie Roadblock figure, so I used one of the blank heads, and dropped in a few other parts. He was the first one that I tested the tattoos on and with what I did there, it worked perfect. No joints to worry about it rubbing off or anything. It achieved the "sleeve" tattoo look. I didn't want the character to go to waste so the Dreadnoks got a new member.

Finally the Dreadnok guy. I'm honestly thinking to call him Stone or something that's Rock like since he's using mostly Roadblock/Rock parts. I sculpted underwear sticking out of his paints cause the torso just looked too long with the bottom legs. Those lower legs are from a VvsV Flint. The hands are from a VvsV Gung Ho. The head as mentioned is a Boss Fight Blank.

I like the use of Flint's legs....they seem to fit the character.

Yeah I wanted him to be a big stocky dude, but I wanted to hack away the height that Roadblock figure creates. Oddly enough, a lot of it is in those lower legs. The VvsV Flint legs just went right on without any modification. I started to paint the gun pouches and stuff on the shoes, but I ended up figuring it looked better to leave them alone. He sort of became his own character just from kit bashing.

Were the decals hard to work with?

Not really. It's a professional grade water slide material I got in. It comes on a roll and works with my printer. It's made to be applied fairly easy, but I also used a solvent that's for water slide to help the material lay better. It locks it down in place too. The hard part was connecting the details and fixing the issues that came about from trying to fit it to the HACK blank.I'm still considering the idea of stripping it and reprint them for a better fit. I haven't had the time to really decide though. It looks ok, just not quite a match like I wanted.
