#1068 - Ambush

Ambush had been on my customs to-make list for a long time. I started on a version of him a few years ago but did not get very far. Recently, looking through my fodder, I found a spare 25th Recondo body and legs. Looking at it closer, I realized that it worked well as a base body for Ambush. Since the uniform is already the right base colour, all I had to do was paint over the camouflage pattern. It gives Ambush more camo than the original figure (since I had to cover all of Recondo’s original camo pattern), but I actually quite like it.

Head: Wolverine Origins Sabretooth
Torso, upper arms, legs: 25th Recondo
Lower arms: POC Snake Eyes
Hands: Retaliation Colton
Bandolier: Retaliation Snake Eyes
Helmet: DG Duke

#1069 - Tiger Force Roadblock

I was twelve years old and growing out of toys when the original Tiger Force sub team was released in 1988. I remember seeing the commercials for the toys on television at the time and thinking that it was very cool that hey were bringing back original vehicles and figures from when I was actively playing with and collecting Joes. I'm an oddball, but I have always liked the yellow and black tiger pattern on the vehicles.

Since 2017, with Joe on hiatus, I have been updating all my customs to 50th standards of sculpting and articulation. Roadblock, in his original colors, was part of the list of characters that received upgrades. The Tiger Force version was on that list as well until now. I replicated my original parts recipe and simply applied the Tiger Force colors.

Head, web gear: Marauder MTF
Torso, arms: Retaliation Roadblock
Legs: 50th Gung-Ho

#1070 - Lt Clay Moore

I included a Clay Moore custom in PHX Customs’ GI Joe Redemption project. That one was clad in a brown uniform but was based on the Tanks or the Memories figure. While I was building that custom, I made this one at the same time. The lower legs are different and the color scheme was changed to blue to match the original figure, but otherwise, both customs are very similar.

Head: RoC Heavy Duty
Torso, upper arms: RoC Neo Viper
Lower arms: Retaliation Alley Viper
Lower legs: 50th Night Viper
Upper legs: 25th HISS Driver
Straps: 25th Duke + RoC Snake Eyes
Helmet: Resolute Cobra Trooper

#1071 - Python Cobra Commander

I have slowly been making a custom Python Patrol over the last couple of years. For the longest time, I displayed Armoured Cobra Commander with that team since that is how he appears in the DIC Operation Dragonfire mini-series.

It did not occur to me that I needed any other version. However, while I was sorting some old files on my computer, I stumbled on a picture of a custom Python Patrol Cobra Commander. It was made using the black suited 25th version, but it sparked inspiration. A quick Google search told me that it was by Bad Sociologist, which did not surprise me, as he was one of the customizers that inspired me to take up customizing back in the day.

I used a more modern version of the Commander as a base and tweaked some of the colours for my version.

All: 50th Cobra Commander

So much awesome! That ambush is spot on with that head and great camo.
The HD head looks much better on that smaller character.
You made the definitive roadblock, and tiger force adds icing on top. The last Joe's ibought were tigerforce clearance from tru ! Much nostalgia for me.
I don,t know of pp needs a cc, but I like it!

Claymore is a neat use of parts. I really do love that CC for its simplicity, but mostly the tight execution.
