Remember the 70s? Back then, they created what I like to call "proto-villains" for our very popular heroes of the time, namely American G.I. Joe and the British Action Man. One such proto-villain was The Intruder. He was billed as a "Strongman from another World!". This custom is an homage and modern interpretation of that figure. It's a simple repaint of the nameless Canceled Jurassic Park Mercenary with sticker decals thrown in for more accuracy. I was aiming for something easy and something that spoke to a more modern military take on this alien being.

Image

I figured that the larger stature of the base figure coupled with the tattoos would be great for a fresh look at this alien invader.

Image

Classic rematch! G.I. Joe vs The Intruder!

Image

Easily crushed.

Image

Action Man is next up to bat!

Image

In revenge he wraps him in his classic Vicious Bear Hug!

Image

The Intruder stands victorious after years of obscurity.

Thank you!

The Action Man is from the awesome 2017 SDCC Revolution Box Set which had an assortment of representatives from various Hasbro properties.

If I were to pin stripes on a figure the way they did it with Action Man, I'd completely disassemble the figure. Then I'd paint the blue base coat then varnish it after. Next, I'd paint white lines where the actual orange lines will be painted. Then paint over the white lines with orange. If I have to make corrections, I'd paint blue over the areas that bleed over too much.

It's one method. Another method is using masking tape to cover where you don't plan on painting and either hand painting or spray painting it until reaching your desired colour. Never tried that one, but it should work.

every time i use the masking tape as you described i get paint under the tape. not a lot, but just enough to look bad. thats with spray and brush. it looks great until i pull the tape. my hand shakes too much for thin pin striping just winging it.

oh i have with mixed results. i end up going back with a color, then just a little more of the other. back and forth until most times it looks worse than it did at first. luckily i like to dirty my customs up so i can hide my mistakes. i was just hoping you had a silver bullet to laying down clean lines:)

Great to read! It seemed to me the most awesome way to go. I did debate whether or not I should go for a more medieval type armour over a contemporary modern one. I could still take that route. What do you think?

Well, if you go by the packaging and the Intruders are a race of men, the it could be both. The original armor during the Action Man 70's era and the more modern take against today's Joes when he/they returned.

I didn't feel comfortable with the previous look being such a huge departure from the original figure so I decided to bring his look even closer to his original look. I picked up a Cobra vest, painted his belt gold, reframed his decals and gave him hair using putty. I think this time it looks even better whilst still retaining the modern look.

Thanks, dude! The first one was my first attempt at customizing. Just a repaint. This revisit was necessary now that I've learned more.

I love the revision. Still not sold on the tattoos, but the hair and armor changes are great.
