S.T.O.M.P.E.R.
Severe Terrain Operations Multi-Purpose Extreme Ride

It was only a matter of time before Clutch finally made his dream ride. All of the tweaks and modifications over the years to the original Lamborghini Cheetah model built onto a monster truck 4x4 chassis. The result is a V.A.M.P. that can go anywhere and makes Cobra run away in fear.

Combining a Joe vehicle with an RC truck has been on my To Do list for a long time. I almost did this project without the RC element to it since I got a set of tires that would work perfect for it but lacked a decent RC Truck. Once I did find the truck I had to strip it down to essential things only. The VAMP model was also going to be the original VAMP until I came across the Street Fighter Street Striker for cheap. The VAMP mk II parts screamed to be used instead.

Since the black and silver paint scheme was pretty simple (besides the interior), I decided to give it some added play features like the working headlights using some dollar store book lights and making the wench have actual cable line and a hook. Once it was all together with some leftover stickers and the lights turned on it reminded me of the old STOMPER battery powered trucks. Hence the name. I also had a smaller bumper on the front. I drove it into my entertainment center and snapped the bumper off and jarred the VAMP off the frame. So I modified the original RC truck bumper and gave it some reinforcement to handle my bad driving.

Parts
SF Street Striker (VAMP mkII)
Nikko FJ Cruiser
Book lights
dice and airsoft bb for the shifter

wow, I think you marked it off your list, but added it to all of ours.

I'm thinking my little indoor copter might be a cool escape craft for the CC.

Fantastic idea. The only critique I have is with the color. It looks like a Stinger. If it's a Joe vehicle, green would have looked better.

Dittos on all previous kudos!

It looks bad ass - and I love the attention to detail, the lights, the dash, the fuzzy dice!

I doubt we will see a cooler vehicle in 2008.

Well hot damn, that's a good looking vehicle and I'm glad to see the Convention Clutch with him (in my own mind the ultimate version)

My only critique is..."Why don't I have one?"

Great idea Pluv...I've been working on a couple similar ideas...though I've tended to let mine get a little too complex and farther away from the finish line.

I agree with JFAK...the Black is a little too Stinger...a Green, or Brown would really say VAMP

I'm sure it'd be a pain in the arse...but I think it'd look good if you dropped the body about another inch lower...

Awesome!!! 8-O
I too had an idea of making a Monster Truck for the Joes or Cobra's. See that's my problem, I always have a lot of ideas, but I make so few for real............ :-/

JFAK and nova, I was originally going to keep the green SF VAMP as is and paint all the silver stuff black, but I hated the forest green it cam so I started by spraying the body black. As I was sitting there with the black body and the silver attachments all I could think of was the Oakland Raiders. Then, honest to goodness, as I was trying to figure out how to hook up the lights and was still undecided about what the color scheme, I was also watching American Chopper and they did a bike in black and chrome and talked about how cool it looked with the simple colors. That pretty much sold me on keeping the color scheme as is.

As for it looking like a Stinger, I would hope the lack of big red missiles and the fact it is about 8 feet higher would help distingiush it from a the Cobra jeep. I think it looks different enough to set it apart. The thought of going with the olive green, or metallic cherry red, or giving it some pin stripes all crossed my mind, but I couldn't get past the simple black and silver.

Maybe someone with better RC knowledge would be able to chop the body some, but I did as much as I could without having to rewire stuff. As is Clutch is pretty much sitting on the circuit board which is right above the battery case. The only spare room the VAMP has is in the front (where I have the lighting wires crammed in) and in the back where the missile is mounted. I thought about moving the batteries in the back, but I couldn't figure out a way to access them for replacement that wouldn't be a pain. I also tried to figure out how to move the motor in there but that would have required redoing the entire rear axel.

I learned from this experience to choose a bigger base vehicle. A Hammer (or any HMVEE model really) would have given me a lot more room to play with to move things around. When, not if, I do another RC conversion I plan on really trying to integrate the RC components into the existing vehicle instead of what I did here, which was laying the existing vehicle on top of the RC innards. I'm also going to have to look at an RC book for dummies or something because I should know how to rewire some of this stuff.
