EDIT: Scroll down for the new pics!
Well, I made my Captain Marvel quite a while ago, but was always torn as to whether or not to do the rest of the family. On one hand, they're pretty lame (especially their names), but on the other hand, they're iconic and a big part of my childhood, so after reading a Teen Titans Graphic Novel that featured Captain Marvel Jr, I figured it was time to whip these up:
I tweaked my Capt Marvel a bit by swapping his head out for the JP General (was using a Chap Mei diver) and re-doing his cape (still not happy with it.)
EDIT: went back and gave him a little bit of skin tone (the head was bugging me.)
Freddy (I'll just call him "Marvel") I did today on the spot - I almost used my coveted blue Microman, but decided I wanted a darker color, so I used a bunch of scrap pieces and a Slipstream head (still not sold on the head, but it works for now.) Cape is not as good as I'd like it, either:
Mary I've had mostly done for quite a while - I just needed to darken her hair and paint the lightning bolt & boots. I had cobbled together parts trying to make a Storm figure, and liked this look for an updated Mary Marvel:
Anyway, let me know what you think - I've got to go back and clean up some of the details and re-do the capes for the boys, but I like them overall.
EDIT: Oh - and the paint jobs don't look as "sticky" in person. Something to do with the flash, I'm thinking.
Cheers!
EDIT: And now for the "after" pictures:
Re-built Captain Marvel from scratch (needed a better one anyway - although now I don't have any spare Micro-Supermen anymore
) But at least all his joints move now!
Used the old Capt Marvel for Black Adam - the head is a BBI WWII soldier with Spock ears (I wanted to use an MLS Punisher, but the head was way too small.) The face isn't as angry as I'd like, but it's the right size. I don't really plan to use Adam much anyway, so his frozen joints aren't that big of a problem (the reason I needed to make a new CM.)
Went for the innocent Mary look - I may make a "normal" cape for her down the road, but I like the look of this one. She's a little short compared to the rest, but using the heeled feet really didn't look good. Besides, she's supposed to be like 14-15 anyway.
And the updated family photo:
Thanks for all the input guys - I had a lot of fun with these. Now to take a break for a few weeks (going on vacation.)
