I just saw this post while browsing Hisstank. I don't know who the guy is, or what his affiliations are, or if he's already on here. I just think the thread and the samples are worth seeing, though the parts might be pricey. If you read thr whole thread (samples are posted throughout) the guy discloses that his father was a sculptor for several toy lines, and the has also done work on a few lines himself. It's worth a read, if nothing else.

I'm sorry but I don't like ANY of those heads.

They look like modded Corps heads.

Edit: new editions to the repo side is nice to see. Maybe if they were fleshed out more they would be good.

They all look like guys who havent pooped for weeks.

Which isnt bad, considering these are Dreadnoks. :D

Edit: added constructivism (right word?)

Does anyone have any actual constructive criticism here or is it just going to be a chat gang-up?

by raptor

They certainly don't suck, but they do have their own unique look to them.

Not sure how they'd blend in with your standard off the rack joes. I don't think I could use them, but for people that like their joes cartoony, maybe this is an option.

:-) No worries here, as I have no affiliation at all to the post, and I'm nothing more than a casual browser on that other site. But as someone who is always on the look out for original parts choices (only so many times I can re-use the Duke head and feel like I'm making something "original") I thought it was worth a look. I actually thought P-Luv would at least like to see what they were trying with the Fridge.

But it's not my work, and I don't even know how many of the parts I actually like either. But thought somebody on here might see something up their alley.

as for them looking like modded Corps heads, yeah the open mouth snarl gives it that feel, but they seem to be sized better, and for whatever it is worth the customizer said they are his sculpts.

But as for the responses, heck I'm just glad people looked - I'm usually a thread-killer... ;-)

Really liking the Bazooka and Metal Head sculpts, as well as the Cobra Commander-into-Snakeman. Never been a fan of screaming heads, whether they're from Hasbro or independent sculptors, so I'm not into the 'Noks.

Mad Joe Customizer is definitely talented, but I agree that his sculpts are more stylized. I'd be interested in seeing the pieces first-hand to judge how well they fit in with the 25th figures... Regardless, it's good to see another source for custom-sculpted parts and I wish MJC luck. I forward to seeing what else he's got up his sleeve.

by Darko

I'm not a huge fan of these. Like WLN, I'm not a fan of perma-scream faces. To me, it limits the usefulness of the figure in the same was as crappy 'action poses' do. It looks a bit weird to have the Joes all standing in GI Joe HQ screaming at each other all the time. The prices are insane, too. $8 for a custom head?

....and even if I *did* like his sculpts, his "MY DAD AND I WORK IN THE TOY INDUSTRY SO THEREFORE IT IS WORTH IT AND EVERYONE ELSE'S CUSTOM SCULPTS ARE CRAP!" attitude insures that I will never, ever buy from him.

by drbindy

I agree with Darko that there is something about the guy's tone that doesn't sit well, though I'm not sure if I took the part about his background quite that way. I think it was more trying to establish some kind of rep a little too fast that comes across pushy.

Also agreed on the price. I've had a hard time justifying paying the reasonable prices for the great sculpts from the existing sites, let alone $8 for just a head. I"m guessing those prices come down after some of the posts made already in the guy's second thread.

I'm not a fan of the scream face as well. I also don't like the guys tone as well. I'm sorry but I don't think any cast head out there is worth $8 but $5 shipping. His comment about customizing being expensive really rubs me the wrong way. Its people like him that are making it expensive and people support prices like have no one but them selves to blame later on down the line when starts charging higher prices. Theres no way i will be purchasing any of his stuff either but then I again I like making my own heads anyways.

Yeah, it wasn't so much establishing his background that bothered me, it was the part where he made the comment about GTG being "cheap for cheap". GTG (now Trigate) does damn good work (much better, IMO, than this guy) and sells it for reasonable prices. Hell, even Alyosha, who is a bit more expensive than Trigate, it a ton more reasonable.

by Mysterious Stranger

Definitely not my tastes at all. I really don't like expressive head sculpts. They limit the uses of the figure as far as I'm concerned. Is it good work? Maybe. I don't know. But I'm not going to try out his stuff. For one, like I said its not my taste and two his attitude just general way of going about things just rubs me wrong.

You know what - the thread got large enough there, I never even saw that comment about G2G. I agree they do damn fine work, and have a better selection and rep. Honestly, had I seen that slam, I probably wouldn't have even posted it over here. I really was just trying to make sure that the members here who aren't members there saw the option. Now I wish I hadn't even brought it up if the guy is making statements like that.

by SlayerDave

I made a post, and roguetiger my man thanks for calling it like you see it. I think in the end the guys work will speak for itself, if he really feels the need to slam or call someone out let him, just makes him look bad. Hell there are 100's of customizers who do better stuff the GTG or trigate is doing, we are just doing what we do for the love of the hobby. The part i didnt like was the holy then tho tude, but maybe its just the text on the screen, maybe it wasnt ment the way it came across, that sure and hell happens sometimes.

I dont think the work is that bad, some a lil more rough then others, some pretty cool, all in all,it is another option.
