I'm looking into this and wondering what everyone's motivation is for either buying or selling customs.

If you do sell, do you put the money you make back into customizing? Have you had any problems selling for whatever reason?

If you buy customs, do you just get certain types of characters or just from certain customizers? Have you had any issues with the customs (don't name names) or the purchasing process?

WooHoo firts to vote!

Well I have been known to sell some commisioned customs from time to time. I've also bought custom figures from other, but more often than not I'm buying custom parts one at a time from people.

The only person to ever buy my stuff was Kenneth Reilly. He has always come through. I used the money for more Joe's, but not customizing.
I haven't ever offered any of mine for sale either though. I don't think most people would buy them, as there are far more superior ones out there.

Only bought one commissioned piece from DavAnthony, and that was the Duke that you can now buy through GTG ( I think that's the place). That Duke was worth every penny. It was a month or so process, and he kept me in the know and sent me updates every week.

Every single person who sees it in my collection can automatically spot it as something different, and everyone thinks it's amazing. They always say "if only all of them looked like this, I'd still be buying them" or something along those lines.

If I ever want another custom, he is probably the guy I'd go to.

I have to buy them all the time because I can't make them. I just don't have the skills or patience. Just call me Mr. LBC ;-) :-/

Most of the customs I have were purchased/won from EVILFACE and zombieguide

See this thread about my latest acquisition: http://www.joecustoms.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1114

I'd like to buy others, but people never seem to respond to my messages as to whether their customs are available for sale

i have sold a minor few customs that I've done for myself.

i have sold commission work, which I enjoy more. however, redoing customs I've already done sucks.

i think I've sold somewhere around 5, and have 8 in the works to sell.

While I have never bought any customs, I have on occassion recieved customs as gifts...

I've never sold my customs, though I have sent them to people as gifts. As for buying them, I've bought two, JFAK's Venomized Raptor & iwbeta's Scarlet Witch. Raptor I had to add to my army since it was uber-frickin-cool & Scarlet Witch was an awesome piece that while I could've spent a ton of time & money to replicate, it was just easier to pick up the original. Both customs enjoy prominant spots in my dispplays.

I've sold a few customs to Kenneth Riley that he took a fancy to, and sold some on E-bay that I'd either grown tired of looking at or just didn't "fit" in my collection anymore. In most cases the money more or less went roundabout into customizing, ie., buying paint, brushes or other tools. Lately I've considered doing another sell off, again, of customs that don't fit (display space is becoming a premium again).

I did once get asked to do a commission--until I saw the custom the buyer wanted copied was one of Teknokyo's. I informed them I'd didn't have a prayer of coming even a million years close to that kind of quality. 8-O

I've never bought a custom, but have received several as gifts.

I have never bought a custom unless you count the cast original accessories from guys like Marauder and GTG. I really prefer to make my own stuff.

I have done many, many commissions over the years (customs figures and vehicles, as well as a couple of hundred model build-ups and over a thousand small scale gaming miniatures and their environments) but stopped a few years back because I got screwed too many times by buyers.

I have also provided customs as gifts, most recently to Narceron and Segnett last Christmas.

I've sold a few customs as well as traded them, but I've never bought one. Though I did bid on a cool custom 12 inch Wild Bill, Airborne , and Ripcord on E-bay about a year ago. They were great, but went out of my price range quick. They are the only customs I've wanted to buy.

Me too. If it was not for the kindness of others I would have a creativity itch that could not be scratched.

Same here for Kenneth. The only customs I still possess that were in the archives are my RedWolf, and the Shadow Ops SDSS driver. But all the others went between private ownership, and Ebay.

Paid for our dental woes.

Nowadays, the only customs I am making are purely for my future RE enjoyment, and I wouldn't sell them at all. The parts used were great "good lookin' outs" from some dang great guys here.

Sorry for ask Pluv but insted os buy or sell dont they must be: bought or sold?

by gijoey

I've never bought someone else's custom preferring instead to attempt making them my self.
I have sold a couple of customs and have regretted it every time. It feels like giving up a piece of my self and once I've made a custom I have no desire to make it again.

by J_Man

Yeah I don't mind selling a custom of course. Or I'll make something for someone and they can pay me what they think is fair. I'm fine with that, but I don't buy customs. I can make what I want, so I just never buy something someone else does. Not that I feel I can make it better or something, it's just that I'd prefer to make my own stuff when it comes to the "unofficial Hasbro" items.
