LCAC Hovercraft question

Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

If a person was to make a custom of one of this, how much/what size vehicle should it hold?

Image

True scale would be too large, so I'm looking at a scale that would fit in better. Finding what vehicles it should carry is the starting point.

I'd start w/ two whales and cut them jsut before the curve of the hovercraft skirt bends

I think it should carry the mobat, but probably not the grizzly.

Or do you mean the one in the picture?

Doh!

I'd say make your Cargo Bed the size of 2 Maulers/Equalizers backed End to end.

That puts you Just a little bit longer than the Whale, and once you build out the parts of the ship it should be just a bit wider.

I would make it long enough to carry the Rolling Thunder, which would still make it smaller than 1/18 scale. If you make it to fit 2 Hammers across by 2 deep, that should make it wide and long enough.

If you cut up some Whales for this, pleeeease don't destroy any good ones. :(

BTW, you know that if you build this you have to make an amphib ship too, right?

I agree with nova. It needs to be longer and wider than the whale. Having room for 2 Maulers would give you plenty of room for a Vamp and Whirlwind or RAM, Silver Mirage, and LCV, or a Jungle Strike Humvee and two Armadillos. The point is, having the space for two tanks would give you enough room to carry all sorts of different land assault teams.

Edit: Sorry I forgot this last point. This size would also make it so it isn't so big the thing would only be able to be displayed on a table top. It would be big, but not overly huge.

Didn't someone do one of these a few years ago...

I remember it was around the time a game called "Outbreak" came out on the PS2, because the climax of the game takes place on one, and he said that was partly his inspiration to make it... I think?

I have NO idea who it was, though.

That would be a good size for a toy version. The real one can have 3 X 3 Hummers, but it is a tight squeeze.

This is a project I have thought a bit about before. To make it look realistic, and possibly to help it float, the bottom of it could be some sort of inflatable innertube, from a small wheel.

Mercer made one using one of those pool floating noodles as the base for his Orca custom.

Why not use the fans from those powered swamp boats from the Chap Mei Dino hunters toyline. Could that help?

Computer power supply fans or case cooling fans is what I suggested Dan to use on his new Whale custom he's making. The Computer power supply fans are a little larger and would look real good on a LCAC I think.

I gotta agree with Nova on this one as well. Make enough room for 2 Maulers and that will give you plenty of space for Vamps, Armadillos or what ever. As far as what vehicle "should" it carry, that is going to depend on which person you talk to. We will all say some thing different based on what vehicles we like. For me, I would say 1 Vamp, 1 Wolverine and 2 RAMs. Just my 2 cents.
